I love that when Jason threatens to rightfully ban Blake he goes all, "I didn't break any rules." As if signing up for a site means the site can't tell you to fuck off whenever they want to.

I am hoping Brand New releases a compilation of sorts with unreleased songs at some point in the next couple years. I assume this is the last official Brand New album though.

Hey guys I know this is like sooo five hours ago but I'm defending the idea that a drummer/guitarist is hell of lot more replaceable than a singer. It's when this idea is simplified that it starts to fall apart. (And might hurt some feelings)

I didn't read too far back, but I didn't see the point that guitars/drums are instruments being performed, whereas a singer in a way IS the instrument. You can't go buy my vocal folds at a guitar center hoping to mimic my sound. After all we're all special snowflakes, even Blake.

I think what's most important to consider is the writing and who's involved. For example, if Jesse Lacey and Brian Lane were the main writers 50/50 of BN and Brian decided to quit, obviously there would be a change in the final output. (Who's to say if it would be better or worse?)

Primary writer or not, the actual sound, style, intensity, etc. could be matched by the right new drummer, and its very possible this new drummer could have even better chemistry with Jesse than Brian. Again, I think the writing process/history is most important when considering this argument.

I'd say more but I wouldn't want to wake the Tate and his ban powers.

I mean, sure it's easier to replace a drummer or bassist (or hell, even a guitarist) and still continue on cohesively than if it was a vocalist... But that also doesn't mean that drummers and bassists are almost all inherently replaceable in bands like Blake was arguing.

I'm mad that High and Low still hasn't announced their set times when they tweeted on Tuesday that they would announce it the next day lol

I want a full Brand New set!

I know this is stupid, but I kind of wish the album title started with D. It just would have been satisfying ya know. Deja, Devil, Daisy... I don't know just a random thought

Yeah that sounds like a pretty strong generalization. There's so much to consider... like the diffficulty/uniqueness of the part, how much the instrument is featured... but there's the case for how vocals are indeed most often the standout of a song. When I was young I didn't really hear drums, guitar, bass, etc - separately. I knew they were there but I couldn't really follow along unless if it was pretty clear cut.

The human voice on the other hand is something we all have and are pretty damn familiar with.

Maybe I missed the initial point. If the argument was "bass/drums are ALWAYS replaceable" then that's just dumb. If it was "bass/drums are more easily replaceable than the voice" then I'd say it's most often true. But the uniqueness of the singers expression has to be considered.
