also who would have thought that the guitar work in "Be Gone" would be one of the biggest indicators of the guitar work of an LP5 lol
so many southern rock lick vibes on this record, and Be Gone totally shows that theyve been capable of writing those for quite some time now.

    Looking at these lines again:

"Hide your daughters", the old men say
You were young once before, you know how we get our way

Possible reference to "If you let me have my way I swear I'll tear you apart" from Me vs Maradona vs Elvis?

seeing as that part of Luca is my favorite Lacey lyric of all time, i love the line

You never worked well with our group
Not with the faults we found
So we fixed you with cement galoshes
No one can save you now
Unless you have friends among fish
There'll still be no air to breathe
You could drink up the entire ocean
I'll still find someone to be everything we know that you'll never be

I don't care for it at all. Felt it was repetitive and a little boring. All their other albums have slow, fast, acoustic, quiet, loud. But SF seems to be mostly slow with just a small pinch of energy. Lyrics are pretty good but I can't see myself returning to this album in the future. I have 4 listens and that seems to be enough for me.

Speaking of Tool, this whole thing is giving me flashbacks to when 10,000 Days was released lol

I told a friend of mine that 451 sounds like if Brand New tried to write Folie a Deux with a southern twist

Haven't posted in a very, very long time (ap.net days) but from 1:35 to about the 2:08 mark on "Lit Me Up" anyone else get a "Tautou" vibe? It's just a little darker/eerier.

Either way, awesome album this far. Different songs start clicking each play through.

I don't get how people rank songs on an album so quick.

In general we are too quick to say where an album stacks up against an artist's work or other albums this year, but I'm guilty of this too and I get why it happens. I can listen to an album and pretty quickly tell if it's something that will last with me and how it made me feel compared to the artist's other work.

But individually songs blows my mind. Outside of maybe a couple songs really sticking out one way or another, I almost always either like an album or I don't, and it takes me a long time from there to decide what songs I think are the best, especially on albums like this or Black Mile to the Surface where they are clearly meant to be consumed as a whole. I still haven't even differentiated the songs enough to immediately know which one is which.

(This isn't directed at anyone, just more an observation because I feel so slow on the pick up on some of these albums. I'm also terrible at making decisions.)

Yeah I know what it's from. It just sounds ridiculous. The vocals sound so loud and there's a dearth of melody. I prefer the uses on Noro. It's just so out there. Takes me by surprise every time.

-Brand New puts up preorders for LP5 and I get one!
-Brand New concert in Chicago, 15 minutes from my house, and I get tickets!
-Brand New release LP5 and it is glorious

    What a week

Finally had a chance to listen to the whole thing. I honestly hear echoes of everything they've ever put out - YFW included - but distilled through the experience of playing together for nearly 20 years along with the some of the best songwriting of their career. The strength of these songs and the album as a whole is why something like IAAN, while a perfectly enjoyable song on its own, is somewhat disappointing coming from these guys. I can't wait to spend more time with this.

Haha. Sorry to disappoint, but I have confirmed that the package was in fact my order of Lost Lake glassware and not anything super awesome from Brand New.

On the plus side, I now can make tiki cocktails at my apartment in cool glassware.

I also don't really hear fall out boy in 451 but I've heard that mentioned a ton. I hear more of an industrial sound.

Love this! Had a similar. My convo yesterday with my gf who loves music but does not (yet) know the brilliant ways of Brand New:

Me: "omg omg omg babe! Holy shit! Holy fuckin shit!! The album is announced. Brand new! Brand fuckin New! It's happening. They didn't even announce it - some very smart people found the album title and album art by using Shazam. It looks like it's gonna be called "Science Fiction" and the album art just surfaced and it looks fuckin' dope!"

Her: "I'm so happy for you sweetheart. Is the album cover of more people dying?"

Me: "ummm...yea, well...about to. Yea, yes it is."

    Amazing.

All the same except the gig is in London which is about two hours on the train from me, but either way it's been an incredible week.
