I will never deny that JL is a wretch but I would honestly like a copy of the special limited edition.

I feel like Modern Baseball/Slaughter Beach, Dog are the spiritual successors to Motion City Soundtrack. They seem to have the same lyrical writing styles, and are the same type of 'positive force for good in the world of talkng honestly about neuroses/mental oddity and illness.' For me, they're not as good because almost no one IS as good as MCS, but those folks have filled the same hole in my head and heart.

I find the new TWIABP record to be very comforting to listen to. Just revisited it tonight for the first time in a while and it's still fantastic

I've never found a band that combined moog/synth and pop-punk like MCS did

Much like no one mixes violin and pop-punk like Yellowcard did.

Wish silver jews were on Spotify. I'd listen to them a lot more.
Do you listen to LVL UP? If not, you should. They are heavily influenced by them and they're great.

It makes me so happy to see MCS mentioned with such love and admiration. They really are incomparable for that style and their lyrics.

I forgot Dustin Kensrue covered Jesus Christ on his live album last year.

I listened to it in full today, and I didn’t cringe, because that song means something very very different to Dustin Kensrue than it does to JL. You know what I mean if you followed the Mars Hill/Mark Driscoll stuff over the last few years.

I connect to that song still for the same reason DK connects to it - doubt and faith and turmoil trying to follow something you used to believe in, but are now shaken.

This just goes back to how important it is to keep your memories and burn the rest of it down re: Brand New.

Honestly I feel that way about most BN. I've been able to listen to them this week because I never gave any thought to what JL meant it all to mean and only what it meant to me. Totally understand anyone who thinks from a songwriters point of view getting turned off by all their music though.

I was randomly searching for Brian Fallon videos on YouTube last night and found one where he played some deep Gaslight cuts acoustic (1930, Mae, Blue Jeans and White T-Shirts). Also, Sowing Season.

It just goes to show how respected these guys were.

I don't understand how your interpretation of what Jesus means to Dustin isn't also what it means to Jesse? I mean, not every single song is about his issues with sexual abuse. Not even close to a majority are. A select few stick out as being about it, a few more possibly, but a ton are still just about religion and death and loss

Eh, I agree on the Yellowcard violin part, but honestly you might just need to dig for more synth power pop bands, haha, MCS definitely isn't he only one.

Check out The Anniversary's record Designing A Nervous Breakdown. Ozma also has some good synthy pop punk.

I've been listening to a lot of 80s post punk. Gang of Four, Mission of Burma, of course Fugazi etc. That's been my jam since swearing off BN
