We reach for the longest shadow

“I’m not defending Jake, but he went through a lot in his life,” says Vans Warped Tour founder and promoter Kevin Lyman, 54, who helped McElfresh seek help after the allegations came out. Lyman, who is also a member of the board of directors of music industry aid and assistance group MusiCares, said via phone that, although he wasn’t going to allow Front Porch Step to play on the tour this year, he changed his mind on the condition that McElfresh would be monitored by professional counselors (three were present), as well as his agent and management team. Lyman asserts no one was harmed or at risk at the show. “I have two daughters, 16 and 20, out here. Do you think I would ever put them in danger?” But, he adds, “I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t accept someone asking to give someone a hand up. The easy decision would have been to say, ‘F--- you, Jake. I’m not helping anymore.’ I’ve had 13 death threats so far. It wasn’t a rash decision. It was just an unpopular one.”

Embattled Pop-Punk Artist Jake McElfresh on Underage Sexting Allegations: 'I'm Not a Pedophile, I'm Not a Rapist'

That's enough for me to not want to support Warped.

Totally agree, I'm just thinking that with the recent events, theres just no way this behavior can continue. I'm hopeful at least.

yeah, the easiest way right now would be to close the tour that has the most toxic environment in the scene.

If there's no hope to fix it then that's fine with me. I'm not supporting it as is, but there's nothing wrong with trying to fix something that's easily fixable, the issue is if they really actually care enough to make changes and I'm hopeful that they will but if not, good riddance.

yeah I agree. I just think that lyman has proven that he doesn't care and can't fix that.

I'd bet a ton of bands on warped over the past decade will have allegations about them pretty soon

  6. Hey all, I haven't posted in this thread before nor am I a fan of the band. This mess with that shit stain Jesse has completely struck a fucking nerve and has prompted to share a story with you all. About 3 or 4 years ago a good friend of mine was having an issue with someone and he was in some deep shit, he told me he was hitting on this girl and it turned out she had a boyfriend. It's a pretty shitty thing to do in my mind, this kid wants to beat the piss out of my friend for this. Now, this person got him show up by talking about his father who passed away. At this point I don't want him to get killed. I decide to go a near by Wendys with him to meet this kid so he doesn't get killed. Needless to say I watched my friend get shit beat out of him. About a little over a month ago I was a friend, the situation got brought up, he told me he kind of had something to do with him getting his ass kicked. The reason I found out was because the girl he was hitting on and trying to have sex with was under age. He knew how old she was, she wanted no part of it. I felt fucking awful that I didn't know this pryor four years ago. I've completely cut him off now and I honestly feel grimmey for trying to help him when I had no clue. Sorry for the this long drawn out post guys.

I'm judging them for supporting a completely disgusting organization that turns a blind eye to the very issues we're discussing in this thread and others. Warped Tour's management is directly responsible for perpetuating a lot of terrible things, and many people I know are well aware of this fact, but continue to buy their tickets because they're comfortable supporting them in exchange for seeing the bands they like all in one spot.

I myself have some good memories from Warped Tour as a teenager, and I discovered new music through it. But once I learned what I learned about Kevin Lyman, I just couldn't go anymore.

but I mean if we go down this rabbit hole, what about bands like Every Time I Die, that keep going on these tours yearly and seemingly seem stoked to do so again next year? Don't they know? Do they not care? Should we care? I think we should, but how do you communicate this.

    Super delicate situation.

The list could go on and on but my main question is I am having a hard time figuring out what to think about this in a way.

It's a similar scenario to that of everyone who know about Weinstein but didn't do anything. What do you think of those people?

So I know I can sell these LPs I have from Brand New but will hoodies and a shirt or two sell on eBay? I don't know what the marketplace is like for these things anymore.

I also have a piece of art that was a birthday present I need to sell. That one might prove difficult.

Steve from NFG? Sort of. I know he co-wrote one of the songs on Forever Came Calling's last album. Not sure if he's done much else since then.

I'm pretty certain he cowrote the song "Wish You Well". I don't have my CD booklet in front of me so I can't 100% verify.

And according to AllMusic, looks like he co-wrote a few songs on Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!'s 2015 album.

I don't think they're smart enough to look up the groups.

If you're going to fault me for wanting to be rid of this stuff as soon as possible then I don't know what to say.

I was there this year too at the Underground venue connected to the Mediterranean restaurant & in 2013 at Paradise Rock Club. The underground was such an amazing performance.
