What a stupid thing to take a stance on. Dear lord.

 

The first song I heard from Brand New was “Sic Transit Gloria” and I remember my friend and I being blown away that it was about a guy being sexually assaulted. The framing of that song is completely different with the recent news. Good lord.

 

Ever get so heartbroken that you just go numb towards what broke it? I'm numb to Brand New now. My heart is with the victims.

 

I just hope that through all of this, it can be an example to rising bands that if they decide to be horrible people, they will not get away with it. I really hope this is the beginning of change. Change in behaviour, and also a change in how people listen to victims of abuse.

 

Yeah, I honestly feel like this is a huge step in the right direction that will not go unnoticed. Women and victims are starting to have more agency and garbage people are not only getting called out, but enduring the consequences of their actions. In time, I believe the effects of this purge will set a new precedent for not only those in the entertainment business, but the general public as well.

 

I'm really proud I had Wolf Alice's album as my AOTY honestly. With all of this garbage, it feels right that it's a female fronted band completely removed from all of this with good politics.
(Not that science fiction was ever in contention for that slot because I think it's just an above average album but still)

 

I think it’s bizarre to suggest the band needs to break down every song lyrically and expose their true meanings.

1.) IMO, at this point it would be better for the victims to NOT have even more shit to relive and be reminded of and see how they’ve been ‘used’ for art. I can’t imagine them having to be exposed to an analysis of all the times their abuse was referenced in lyric. I think it’s insensitive to suggest adding more weight to the situation, when they likely haven’t even listened to any of the songs in years, and it already took an immense amount of courage to re-tell their stories.

2.) Why do we keep making this about us? No one should feel guilty for having an attachment to their art having not known about Jesse’s actions. Us making demands is doing nothing to help the victim. He owes nothing to US, he owes everything to the victim, and WE owe it to the victims to support them and revoke platforms from these people.

Although disturbing, dissecting the lyrics do nothing to help the situation. All I want is a statement from the rest of the band denouncing harassment of the victim. From there, I don’t care if we never hear from them again.

 

I don't think the band coming out to say something will change people's minds either, but it's still worth a try. Anyone arguing that futility is a reason why someone shouldn't do the right thing needs to rethink this situation.

 

Please no not Brian Fallon he is the only hope I have left and also frank turner

 

Modern Baseball, Motion City Soundtrack, Against Me! and The Front Bottoms would be the most surprising to me

 

Ha, saw this and thought to myself there's no way there will be some mewithoutYou fanfiction. Clicked the link and put in their name and was surprised to see several articles named after their song titles and lyrics. Didn't seem to be specifically about them but still... you learn something new every day. I could not believe it!

I'm in a similar boat to you in that I've never really listened to BN. I've also been pondering how many of the bands I do listen to have similar hidden stories and how I would cope in the situation something like that emerged. I've been very impressed by the community here supporting and believing the victims. There is hope.

On a side point, it really does confuse me how there are definitely artists (current and deceased) who are still revered despite allegations of abuse. We so easily create inconsistent standards.

 

I woke up to Facebook Memories asking me if I wanted to share a video of a cover I did 2 years ago and the thumbnail was me wearing a Deja Entendu shirt. Ugh. Not fun.

My issue with that first tweet is that not everyone who supports them is going to know about this stuff..like you can’t make fans feel bad for supporting a bad person that they didn’t know about.

 

I think they were referring to people who find out but support them anyway. And I can't blame them for being so angry, what he did to his victims is disgraceful. That first story was very hard to read

 

Got another email from Ticketmaster now stating Glasgow is cancelled and not postponed, so least I don't have to chase the refund.

After a few days to take everything in, I'm going to make one of my final post on this topic..Plenty of members on this site already think I'm a terrible person. Just hear me out.

I feel awful for ever doubting the original facebook posts, I never thought she was lying. But I just wanted some sort of conformation before turning on a former hero, I believed in my heart I owed that to Jesse for the years of enjoyment. I also learned a very valuable lesson, I need to start listening more and not put some of my heroes up on a pedestal and pretending their great people.

I hope with all of my heart that these women, their families, friends etc. can one day come to peace, I hope one day Jesse can fix and come to peace with these women. He doesn't owe me anything as a fan but he does owe these women something more than a facebook post about cheating on his wife. Man I wish that was the worse accusation that came out, we can get over someone cheating, that happens in life.. But having relationships with minors....WTF?!?! You are Jesse fucking Lacey! Plenty of women that aren't minors are more than willing to sleep with you!

At the end of the day I feel betrayed by my favorite band (at least the front-man) it fucking sucks that a band I once loved will forever be tarnished and no less than a week ago they were on top of the world.

EDIT: Now after reading the pitchfork story, I will never be able to listen to them again. It just keeps getting worse and harder to read! Ugh! Also I see a lot of people recommending bands.. Check out Martha! They were suppose to play with Brand New on the UK tour but they were smart enough to jump ship right away.. Great band and worth checking out!

 

We both ordered from the same company so that seems odd. Hopefully does, really been tight this month so this is actually quite a welcome 40 quid.
