I was on a working visa! So it expired last year but it was the best two years of my life so I'm excited to be going back. When I saw the UK dates I didn't even think about it, I just booked. I'm supposed to pack for it today but can't pull myself out of bed right now.

I know London will be good regardless but that "omg excitement is gone" and my plan to listen to Brand New on repeat for the 22 hour flight is now out the window ha

 

Another recommendation i have for everyone is Camp Cope. Without a doubt right up there with Julien Baker as one of my favorite music discoveries of the past few years.

 

The victim posted again on Brian’s status about 15 min ago saying The NY Times reached out to her.

Interesting. I wonder if it will be a Brand New/Jesse-specific piece or more about abuse, predation, misogyny, and sexism in the music industry and/or this “scene” (for lack of a better word) as a whole.

listened to them last night while driving to dinner. didn't purposefully put them on, just turned on the iPod and since i listen to them last at work (before finding out the news about an hour later ironically enough), it picked up where it left off.

to me, i didn't have an issue with listening to the album / songs. i met Jesse once for about 15 seconds in 2006 and the rest of the band for maybe a minute at the same show that year, so while i've listened to Brand New since a few months after YFW came out, i don't know them. they're still strangers to me. just like the woman who came forward is a stranger to me. so this news is kind of like if friends or family told me something about people they knew. the information of course is awful and sucks,but it's hard to connect or get invested in what i've heard about because these people have no correlation to me. part of that probably helps with how distant BN has always been that at times i forget they even exist.

i definitely get why people will throw away merch, delete albums / never listen again and they have every right to do that and no one should be angry with those who choose to do so.

 

I moved through the stages of grief pretty quickly on this one, though anger and bargaining were flipped and bargaining was pretty much combined with denial for me.

 

I have three framed Brand New related items in my living room.. the records staring at me from my collection. I'm waiting for a limited edition vinyl record that I was once eagerly awaiting, and now, have no idea what I'll do with.

 

Has everything shared so far been about online interactions? Has there been any mention of in-person stuff or seeing his face?

I’m not at all questioning what she/others went through. I’ve watched a lot of Catfish and just want to make sure that’s not a possibility. I’m assuming it’s not

I very much don't agree with the barrage of hateful words Jesse's wife is apparently getting on her instagram.

I don't follow her, but I've heard this has been happening.

 

Yeah, she'd certainly be a victim here. That's super uncalled for an unnecessary.

 

Been listening to a lot of Camp Cope, Alex Lahey, AW (formerly Allison Weiss) and to the songs from the Buffering the Vampire Slayer podcast by Jenny Owen Youngs and her wife Kristin to cheer myself up.

 

According to my wife who is a fan of hers, people have been fighting back to the hateful people on there, so that’s at least good. How can people have so little tact

 

It seems this thread is the only sane, safe place to be discussing this. I made the big mistake of looking up #jesselacey on instagram earlier, and it's ALL people saying "I don't care what he does, I'll always stand by Brand New." I'm paraphrasing, but still a pretty disturbing allegiance so many fans have.

 

I always found Brand New fans commenting on her instagram to be weird and second hand embarrassing. But this is worse by far. They need to leave her alone.

 

Are there? I actually looked earlier today but didnt see anything.

EDIT: ok, yes they are. God damnit people are awful.

 

One of the curses with the blessings I seen of people taking a lot of issues more seriously is often times if a person does wrong EVERYONE close to them is a villain as well, THAT is wrong and totally needs to be worked on by any who do that sort of stuff. Respect the literal victim of the actions by the person in the wrong, but understand those close to them often are just as blindsided by this as others. Hell imagine being a spouse and founding out not only were you cheated on for years, but your spouse is possibly a pedophile.... Your world is shattered in an instant. It's a shame people do not try and take that into account.

Seeing my Mom in cuffs cus my brother made some bad decisions taught me never to go at those close till you know what involvement/knowledge if any they had.

 

Every time there's something in the news about dangerous cults with a bunch of followers, people laugh because they don't understand how people could be so unwilling to see outside of such a small scope. They don't see how easily brainwashed literally anyone could be. That's what this reminds me of.

I’ve been listening to The Money Pit all day and it has really helped take my mind off everything. It’s hard to be in a bad mood after listening to that record.

 

I got a new phone today and opened up the google app to find a new phone background and the first news card that showed up was Brooklyn Vegan’s article about the accusations. I’m still so confused and disappointed by the news, I can’t stop thinking about it and feeling so bad for the victims.

I hope everyone is doing okay today otherwise.
