Oddly enough I think I agree with this statement.

Never said there was an filler. I said their are songs that could have been better.

They aren't mutually inclusive. I don't think there is any filler (Besides maybe Bankok but I don't like instrumentals generally speaking) but there are songs that could have definitely been better.

It's way too late, or much too early Prestigious

Not sure how limited the US press is, but I got the /500 white one and I could imagine thats gonna end up being quite expensive. Don't intend on selling it though, it will be another gem in my collection.

I have friends that were into Brand New in college but more so into the YFW/Deja era. I see them sometimes talking about them on Facebook but it's usually quoting YFW songs. I want to ask them about it but it's going to break my heart when they probably don't realize they released a new album.

In The Water sounds so much like a closer, especially the "I can't say it enough" part into the solo. Batter Up knocks it out of the park (LOL), but man, I'd for the band to close a set with ITW one day.

I've been determined to catch up in this thread, so here are some scattered thoughts:
-I can't believe I had to go through 5 pages discussing [shitty band redacted] in a thread about Brand New's first album after 8 years.
-Shame to those who dragged I Don't Think It Is (kidding but I do like the album)
-Proud to be one of the dozens - err dozens of people who like Daisy more than Deja, not one of the dozens of never nudes (but no judgment). Deja was where this band started to get special, but it was really sealed on TDAG & Daisy (probably worth noting I didn't listen to them at all until a year or two after Daisy came out.)
-I can't imagine enjoying all of Brand New's albums until this point, but getting to this one and not liking it. No disrespect to your opinion, just genuinely confusing to me, because I feel like it has everything that makes Brand New great.
-I like Mene and IAAN, but I'm so so glad the album didn't end up like those.
-For the love of god there is no second album coming. This is the album, and that's more than enough for me. (I know some of you are joking, but some people are not). I'm sure it's possible that they will release other songs or something, but right now I only really care about this album.
-I can't believe I've read through 140 pages of thread. I clearly value all of your opinions.
-I hope to god I get more work done today.

It just amazes me how Brand New sounds completely different on every single album, but they still feel like Brand New. What is always constant is amazing lyrics and storytelling. Science Fiction is so damn interesting to listen to, and will get even better with time. The complexity involved in this album is so impressive, and you can tell that it took a lot of hard work and experimentation to put this together. It was a long 8 years, but it's a great album, and we also got the remastered and reworked demos in the meantine.

I was traveling for work M-Th. My friend who lives in Seattle texted me saying that the album was out when I arrived home. He said he drove out into the mountains and listened to it with headphones on last night. I preordered the vinyl. I invited my best friend over who has seen Brand New 3 times with me. Enjoyed the new Turnover album as we "prepared" for this album. Threw on planet earth 2 on blu ray with the MP3s going as audio and ordered pizza. Taking my girlfriend to see her favorite artist tonight and one of my best friends from college is getting married tomorrow. This came out at the most perfect time. Listening to it with headphones at work. Incredible

Early favorite for me is Same Logic/Teeth. And 451 sounds like a Dear Hunter song, really dig it.

I would trade YFW and Deja for the first 6 tracks on The Devil and God

Just ask them about it anyway! That way I they don't know they released a new album that they can go check the album out and eventually share their thoughts with you :)

For being over an hour this thing goes by very quickly. It feels like I hit play and before I know it I'm on Desert and the end is in sight.

We reach for the longest shadow

Lit Me Up in good headphones is something else. When Jesse's vocals come in, then when they harmonize for the first time, THEN "I wanna put my hands to work til the works done." I am dead.

The first half of the album is definitely the better half of that album by far. Except Limousine......... That song could have been way better.

I can second this. My wife is a yogi, runner, generally healthy. Me, not so much. I don't workout, am not active, write sad songs, and smoke. I was also a pretty big dick to her when we met like 9 years ago and she changed a lot for me. So the second verse always brings me back to that song:

"So come shake your Zen out and give me pure energy. My heart is glowing flourescent, I want you to possess it. I’m not a prophecy come true, I’ve just been goddamn mean to you. So what is this thing laced with, please don’t replace me, I surrender, embrace me, whatever I'm faced with."
