I've never been a cool guy. Sometimes I get close.

Turns out today they subbed the Texas toast for (toasted) challah bread. It was actually really good.

I met Nate after a show once and gave him a big hug. A week later he did a Q&A on absolutepunk and mentioned that he hates hugs. Oops. Maybe he wasn't talking about me. Maybe.

To complete the trifecta, I met Scott Hutchison of Frightened Rabbit, but not at a coffee shop, after their show opening for Death Cab in Toronto

Met 3 of my favorite songwriters in my life, praise be

Also met and spoke to a rando handful of actors over the years - Forrest Whitaker, Rupert Friend, Julia Ormond, Sarah Wayne Callies... I live in the least cool place on the planet, I don't understand it

Took Julia Ormond to Toys R Us, I think she thought I was her driver lol

    Story time:

So I see Brandon and Vinnie sitting at a table before the show talking, so I walk up to them and tell them that I'm sorry to bother them, but I really like the new album and I'm excited for the show. So far so good. Then they ask me about how I first heard about them. I told them absolutepunk and mentioned that I actually got into Nightmare of You first. Then I said that IATA scared me when I first listened to it. I felt bad because I forgot to say that today IATA is one of my fav bands. So as I realize this, TEN is halfway through their set and I'm not sure if I'm gonna see them after the show. So i get out of the crowd and do something stupid and tacky. I send Brandon Reilly a message to his personal Facebook saying:
"Stoked to see you guys play! I met you guys before the first band played. I feel bad for telling Vinnie that IATA scared me at first. Lol. I forgot to mention they really won me over and are now among my favorites. I just wanted to let you know in case I don't see you guys later. Thanks again!

I was totally able to talk to them after the show and I can't take back that awkward, Starstruck message. He didn't see it until this morning. So now I just look dumb.

    I'm the worst fan ever.

I've met a huge chunk of Nate's extended family, cousins, aunts and uncles, and even his grandmother! A couple of times actually. They live in Iowa so they come to his shows in Chicago. Super nice people, and it's fun (ha!) reminiscing with them about the old The Format days.

I’m sure they’re used to awkward fan encounters. It actually doesn’t sound too bad!

My wife and I went to see the play Mamma Mia a few years back and when we were in the lobby beforehand I saw Craig Robinson (The Office, etc.) about 5 feet away. I decided to go up to him and tell him that I’m a big fan but I think I ended up overstaying my welcome. He was nice and everything, but I think it probably got awkward after a couple minutes.

I'm hopelessly awkward every time I meet someone remotely famous. I always think of what I want to say before I go up to them, but all I can ever get out is a hello and an awkward sentence about what their music means to me or something, but always just super vague.

It's nobody's battle but your own. Prestigious

Had to go into the office for a retirement lunch today and it was Mexican. So fucking good. That's my random remark contribution to the thread this afternoon. Also am I the only one that doesn't spin SF as often lately? I did play it yesterday but yeah trying to space out my listens more now.

one time in El Paso I went to see The Matches at this little club on St patrick's day. I got there and they were carding people, I had lost my ID that week so they wouldn't let me in because since it was St. Patrick's day it was 21 and over. I was like 25 but my wife and friend went in. I was about to start walking home to see if I could find my old expired ID but I stopped behind the club and was talking to the guitarist or bassist about it, and how I really wanted to see them but they wouldn't let me in. He said "hold on, he went and grabbed a bass and a guitar case put the bass on me and told me to walk in with him through the back. so I did got inside, he took the bass. I said thanks and went and sat with my wife.

    pretty cool story.

there was like 8 people in the club/bar that whole show. they were not a big draw and it was early I think they played at like 7? maybe

I would be spinning the new Brand New but I'm too busy spinning the new Propagandhi and Everything Everything

Those are two bands I was very casual about before but am prettymuch obsessed with lately

I think you only think it was awkward because you weren't expecting to see them again! I don't see anything awkward about it at all though!

No, I am known from the manga and show. I did almost join as bassist for Vegeta's band 'The Prince & The Saibaman' but I let Nappa take it.
