LOVE really hit me at the time. LOVE II was overkill and ended up souring that sound and replay ability for me nowadays.

I agree with both of these takes.

Love is decent background music if you're driving

At least that's what I thought the one time I listened to it in the car

I have a soft spot for the Dream Walker. It felt like a truly realized version of Angels and Airwaves and finally sounded unique enough to make the band stand out. Thank you Rubin brothers.

  6. Yeah the last two albums have been pretty great. Everything before them hasn’t aged well at all, eye em oh.

I think the Love albums have incredible production. My favorite production in AVA history. Pretty timeless imo.

Part II clicked with me after awhile and many forced listens. I’m happy it did. There are some really cool gems on Part II.

I like Dream Walker a lot too, but Lifeforms really blows it out of the water. It’s pretty cool to hear the growth in Aaron Rubin’s production between the two albums. So much that in an interview, Aaron was offended the interviewer called Dream Walker “Lo-fi” haha. I wish I remembered what interview that was now. Couldn’t find it. Damn.

Anyways, It makes me excited for the new blink album knowing he’s a big part of it.

  8. Good production aside, that early AVA stuff makes me cringe. Ha

Love Pt II has some decent songs on it, but I feel like Tom got distracted and the two parts don't really feel cohesive enough.

I’ll admit I didn’t give them much of a chance, but I just remember listening to those LOVE albums and repeatedly thinking “this song would be great on its own - too bad he already used that chorus/riff in four other AvA songs.”

The love albums suck. Their last 2 are really good, but I wish Dream Walker had better production

I don't really mind when songwriters recycle riffs/ideas, but yeah, it happens alot especially on Love Pt II.

Eh, I think if it’s not a direct reference or deliberate connection between songs, it just demonstrates lack of creativity and a limited range of songwriting skills. He didn’t really have anyone else contributing to the melodies or vetoing ideas so he kept drawing from the same few wells.

Helps that the Rubins write most of the Angels stuff.

I think as a songwriter with decades under your belt, it becomes exceedingly difficult to avoid doing that, and I don't think it's a reason to scrap a song or an idea. I just see it as variations on a theme. But I understand why others are annoyed by it.

I have a LOT of nostalgia for the first LOVE album, so much so that it might be my favorite album by them. Some of my favorite non-Blink Tom songs on there

Wasn't LOVE like the most downloaded album at the time or something? They released it on Modlife for free download or something right?

Tom said it was downloaded like a million times in the first few days, but I dont believe anything out of his mouth haha

The only songs from that first Love album I still come back to are Young London, Shove and Moon Atomic. Love Pt2 it's Saturday Love and My Heroine.

Maybe if only one of them existed I would've enjoyed Some Origins of Fire or Surrender.....but the fact that they share the same melody and they're basically part of the same project drives me insane lol

"What? I honestly thought we were just making that song up." - tom
"What are you talking about? People were excited for us until you started singing about all that NASA shit." - mark
"Are you kidding me? They said they wanted the shows to be spacey" - tom
"No they didn't, they wanted something crazy." - mark

same songs for me out of the two albums.

“We Are All That We Are” is such a waste of an epic outro! The last 2:15 of that song is awesome and the kind of jam I wish he explored more of with AVA.
