I'm really hoping new music comes sooner than later as well (especially since they've all apparently been in the studio at various points this year).

It's not even just that I'm craving new music from them, honestly. It's that the existence of new music will be a good indicator of whether or not they are functioning properly this time around IMO. As fun as the shows are and as much as it would be fun having the band back together, I will be really put off if they announce a reunion and then tease (and shelve) new music for two years and have us wondering what's going on behind the scenes.

 

I agree. New music would make me feel more sure about the future. I don’t want another 2009-2011 where they tease Up All Night and an album for two years before anything comes to fruition.

 

I still remember seeing the photo on their website of them together announcing the tour and with new music by that Summer haha. Obviously what came after was a pretty good first single with Up All Night and then the excruciatingly long wait between that and Neighbourhoods. They definitely had a lot of issues in the studio which’s why it took so long and it ultimately was mediocre.

They’d be much more hype with a hit single followed by the album just before the tour kicks off.

Well, if I remember correctly, it was only like three months between "Up All Night" and Neighborhoods, but it was literally two years of teasing that song before we finally heard it lol. Intended for July 2009's release (when they first announced it) and ended up being released July 2011 according to Wikipedia.

That's what I'm hoping to avoid they avoid this time around (for the band's sake) because it points to dysfunction.
