You can tell he was just probably trying to be more himself on Nine than trying to fill a role on California.

Maybe since rob cavallo came back from broadway or whatever he can do a blink album after the new green day (and mcr)

I'd say get Neal Avron & Adam Hawkins to mix the album: they killed it on the last Avril record.

Erik Ron & Courtney Ballard would be good producers in my opinion. They both know how to make relatively simple songs sound huge. Huddy's new song "All The Things I Hate About You" with Erik sounds fantastic, and Erik has worked with everyone from Grayscale to Panic! to Godsmack. He's a really versatile songwriter/composer. Meanwhile Courtney has worked with Stand Atlantic, State Champs, Waterparks, & All Time Low and all of those albums have a really musical sound to them. No wasted notes or excessive tracks, but lots of ear candy and well-balanced compositions.

TIL via Discogs that apparently in the Photographs days, there was a promo single split between Mest (Take Me Away) and Depeche Fuckin' Mode (Precious) of all bands.

Obviously it was just a way for the label to save on materials, but still, wild.

I would also very much like a heavy post-hardcore blink album

Yea I don’t really care that much for Lovato’s songs as I absolutely loved every Jeremiah song and he did some great job on both S/T and Photographs!
He’s also got by far the best song on the latest Mest album that funny enough sounds almost like Alkaline Trio song (Numbers)

I really liked most of 9 but hate Feldman. Really hope whatever they do next they try something different and don’t just stick with the same guy.

Feldman knows how to write a melody that’s catchy as hell. Gotta give him credit where credits due.

However, I am personally not a fan of his sterile sounding guitar tones.

Last week I said I would leave the co-written songs off of NINE. I went back and listened to the album several times over the weekend. I take it back and the album front to back is an unusual but cool journey. I accept the whole album as a really unique release. The initial rollout really annoyed me and I think that is why the co-written songs bother me so much. It is definitely Blink's strangest album to me, but it is because they threw a lot of stuff at the wall under the umbrella of the sounds from this Skiba Feldman Era.

    Highlights for me :

Everything from Matt. It is so wild that we get him bringing his all to Blink. It's awesome to hear him do more poppy stuff and also really cool to hear him bringing his signature sounds to blink songs. I particularly love the first chorus on Run Away. His straight-up shouting on No Heart to Speak of is so good. Seems very likely Tom will return at some point. I think this era with Matt in retrospect will be loved more than it was as it was happening.

All of Travis's little additions are sprinkled throughout the album. Lots of killer outros from him and cool hip-hop sounds.

Pin the Grenade is peak Mark in this era for me. Clever Lyrics, perfect Pop Punk Chorus. Signature Bridge into an explosive final chorus.

Generational divide rips. I read somewhere Feldman said it was a full song with a chorus, but they ultimately decided to take the best parts and make it a super fast classic punk song. Would love to hear the full version.

I am not opposed to the idea of Tom returning and Feldman producing again. I was aggressively against the idea at one point, but that Illium song he did is very much not the kind of music I am into, but Tom's part works surprisingly in modern pop. I actually think he could bring in some interesting ideas to the modern Blink formula. I doubt it would be their best work but I am interested to hear what it would sound like.

I forever want them to do an album with no producer with each member getting full creative reigns on 3-4 songs each under the contingency they lock themselves in one studio Untitled style.

Oh my God Ariel Rechtshaid would be nuts. He wasn't even on my radar as a possibility but I would lose it if that were announced. An Ezra Koenig feature on a Blink song would rip the universe in two.

I don't even know why I am potentially starting this convo in this thread, but from everything I have read, plus the legal proceedings and findings, it seems pretty clear that he did only kill that person in self defense and was justified. Just want to make sure that we aren't just simplifying something as complex as what happened into a meme about him killing someone, etc

I enjoy a thought out perspective post like this.

Doing an album with 4 members, each taking the reins on 4 songs would be cool. You could do 4 sessions and allow each member to choose a producer or not. It may balance the load a bit more with each member having other stuff going on.

Haha, I threw out a hot-take last week but then I couldn't stop thinking about NINE so I did a deep dive on the record.

I feel like we got a tiny taste of what this could be like with Dogs Eating Dogs. You can tell each member had the reigns on portions of the EP. I don't think it is going to happen, but I would love to hear what they come up with. We also haven't heard Blink since Travis became a massive voice in production. You can hear his fingerprints all over NINE. I would love to see what he brings to a Blink production in 2022.
