I still don't understand all the hate for having Feldmann as the producer and the process they went through in making the album.

They went with Feldmann because they wanted to make a radio friendly comeback album, which they 100% succeeded with. And blink has always recorded their albums fairly quickly. Dude Ranch was recorded in 2 months, Enema & TOYPAJ were recorded in 3, same length of time as California. The only albums that took longer were Untitled which was nearly a year and Neighborhoods which took what 2 years on and off. One of Mark's biggest issues with writing and recording the past was he would write a song, not think it was good and kept going back to it and back to it until he ended up ruining it. Which is what Cynical is actually about.

I do think the next blink album will be better as Mark, Travis and Matt get to know and trust each other more but I'd be shocked if Feldmann isn't the producer again. They seemed to love working with him, plus the album was a big success.

I don't understand either. Listen to a lot of Feldmann's other producing and he's practically restrained here. And everything on here is completely in line with production at blink's peak. I know people complain about the whoas and na nas, which have always been present in blink, but not to the extent on here. I think most of that was the easiest way to make an accessible record. They definitely had to play it safe to a degree to get Matt accepted. The first album with a new lineup will NEVER be their best work, especially in this case. Now that Matt's been welcomed, they're going to be more free to experiment with what comes naturally between Matt and Mark and think less and less "is this a blink song" I just think it's funny people scapegoat Feldmann for things like writing quickly, something the band always did on most people's favorite blink records.

  3. I wouldn't mind Blink working with Feldmann again. Just cut back on the woah woahs and na nas, don't use any co-writers, make it less vocal-heavy and focus more on the actual music, write some memorable riffs, and let Matt throw in more of his Matt-ness.

I'd prefer them to use Bill Stevenson though.

Yeah I agree I think for the next album they absolutely need to have some memorable riffs and cut back on the woahs and na nas and also with the song layout with Mark always starting the song. I personally love having both guys singing in the same song so I wouldn't mind seeing that continue with the majority of the songs being joint but also having one or two just Mark or just Matt songs.

Yes, this is the first time they've played it during a show. Should've been a staple all summer.

It still blows my mind that they the marketing for this album stalled after MONTHS of BTD being on the radio. I'm sure they have their reasons, but I really thought we'd be experiencing at third single at this point. We're barely at two singles right now.

Since 2003 for sure. I wonder if we'll get the EP in time for Christmas like they said after all.

When I listen back to Enema and TOYPAJ I dont like that polished sound. I much preferred the production on Untitled. I thought getting into the experimentation of sound and layering the guitars and effects was a good sound for them. Granted, I think Tom had a bunch more to do with that and Jerry just knew how to do it well.

Hope they keep SOOHM for when I see them next Friday.

Actually I wouldn't mind them cutting it if they throw M&Ms back in.

We definitely need some Matt solo songs if they do another album with him

Something to ponder: What about the human taste in music makes some songs/bands/albums instantly click with us, while some are what you consider a grower? Like you may love a certain band, they release a new album. Counting out people who genuinely dislike it, Sometimes some people love it off the bat and others are not feeling it at first but come back after a week or two and love it. What drives this?? For example, I loved California off the bat, but taking back sundays new album 'Tidal Wave' I initially didn't like very many songs off of it. Two weeks later I love basically every song and consider it one of their stronger efforts in recent years

Most of you don't need it, but tell your friends:

California is 99 cents on the Google Play store right now.

I still listen to California, but is hasn't stuck very well. I thought it was because I was trying to preserve it, but it's really lost connection with me. It's a good solid album, though. I'd put it on par with Neighborhoods. Both have their moments.

Also, if any of you have these vinyl, I would totally appreciate buying them from you. I'm trying to complete all the variants:
    • Enema Of The State (LP, Album, RE, RP, Green)
    • Enema Of The State (LP, Album, RE, RP, White/Red split)
    • Enema Of The State (LP, Album, RE, RP, Skin Peach)
    • Enema Of The State (LP, Album, RE, RP, solid blue)
    • Take Off Your Pants And Jacket (LP, Album, Clear + 3x7" )
    • Take Off Your Pants And Jacket (LP, Album, Yellow + 3x7" )
    • Take Off Your Pants And Jacket (LP, Album, Green + 3x7" )

    Thank you!

  22. Blink-182 had 4 great albums:
    Dude Ranch
    Enema of the State
Take Off Your Pants and Jacket
    Untitled

Everything else, take it or leave it, but none are COMPLETE trash.

Yeah I agree completely. I find it hard to listen to albums like Buddha and Cheshire Cat straight through but there's still some really good stuff on it, especially when you put the album in context of when it came out and the age of the band.

What's everyone's favorite non-single from each record (I'm starting with Dude Ranch)?

    Dude Ranch: Pathetic
    Enema: Going Away to College
    TOPAJ: Anthem Part 2
Blink 182: All of This (would say Not Now, but it was a single on the next release)
    Neighborhoods: Even if She Falls
    California: San Diego
