I think it's a law that Martin Johnson needs to write a song about California/LA at least once a year.

    Give what you can.

    Stray beach Blink thoughts:

    - Love the AH as "Cynical" kicks in.
    - I'm glad I'm outside.
    - I'm glad I didn't fall off my skateboard on the way here.
    - Skiba sounds fucking awesome.
    - Hey there's a Chicago reference in "Sober." Nice- thanks Matt.
    - Looking across the beach through polarized lenses while listening to this ultra-slick production feels strangely appropriate.
    - It's hard to sit alone on a bench by the beach without feeling like everyone's looking at me like I'm trolling for anonymous sex.
    - Goddamn these drums have some ridiculous pop.
    - "Kings of the Weekend" reminds me of my buddy's old band.
    - "California" is a fucking great, I just wish they'd powered through the chorus one more time and ended the record on it.
    - I'm still pretty into Blink 182.
    - PACK MY BAGS I SWEAR I'LL RUN, WISH I WASN'T THIRTY ONE.

I like Rabbit Hole a lot more in the context of the album.

Early favorites are Cynical, She's Out of Her Mind, Left Alone, and San Diego.

  16. Definitely. I think all three previous songs work way better in the album.

The only reason I can come up with for why "Left Alone" was not released as a single is that the opening synth line might remind people of Tom. I'm glad they used that synth sound since it maintains the slightest bit of continuity in terms of DED and Neighborhoods.

Random thought, but Tom Delonge's "Golden Showers In The Golden State" could almost have made this album. The song literally references California half a dozen times in the chorus. "Kings of the Weekend" kind of reminds me of it.

Always do the right thing. Supporter

I like it. Gonna listen more before I get too concrete. The one thing I am certain of: the joke songs are baffling. Why are they here? "Built This Pool" just completely disrupts the momentum and flow, and while I kind of like the idea of undercutting a cheesy, cliche song like "California" with a joke, the song is too earnest and "Brohemian Rhapsody" is too unfunny to make it land.

But I'm happy there's a new blink album that after a couple listens I can say I enjoy. While I miss Mark's vocal juxtaposition with Tom, I readily accept that Tom was just bad for the band, and gladly trade him in for someone who's on Mark and Travis's page. Feldmann was also great for them.

I'm glad that while there are a lot of moments on this record that are regressive, it still feels like it's own step forward for the band, rather than something stale or stagnant. There are pop punk songs but they have life and energy, and there are songs where the band is trying something a little different, and it all mostly works and feels right, if not super cohesive. It's at least not jarring.

Early standouts are "Sober", which is very catchy, plus "The Only Thing That Matters" and "She's Out of Her Mind", which are throwback but super fun. "San Diego" made me a lil emotional and "Home is Such a Lonely Place" was solid. Aside from the joke songs, the low points or stuff that I didn't find super memorable or engaging were "Teenage Satellites" and "Rabbit Hole", which I'm still cold on.

Overall I'm pleased though. Yay, blink-182
