It's pretty fifty fifty on here really. Even though I'm tolerating the jokes, it's really just tolerating. I'm glad they're sticking to what feels good for them.

For example, we all know those lyrics are problematic as fuck. we would never utter it ever. Don't you think feldmann and the label knows that? I'm sure they got some pushback but stuck with it.

Yeah. Obviously I have NO clue how California sounds but if there was a prolonged silence and then Built this Pool came on as part of the same track it might have been a funny ending.

Yeah thank god for the option to pick when songs start or finish in itunes. It also helps me skip the first 50 seconds of Asthenia! haha

I honestly don't care about the joke songs but I won't be canceling my preorder or anything. If BTD is any indication of the songs I'll still love this album regardless of some joke songs and their content.

I've never been someone who gets easily offended, but even I raised my eyebrows when I first heard the line. I can personally tolerate the joke, but they must've known that it would be a pretty polarizing song. All the more reason why it's so odd that they threw it on the end of the album. Built This Pool is still a jam though.

I don't mind joke songs, but I still agree: BTP in the middle is ok..the last song does not seem like a clever choice.

  6. If the Trump-rhetoric-brigade continues I'll bail on this album faster than a leaky boat. Being immature and goofing around is one thing, being sexist or defending bullshit with "stop being so PC" is another. "Built this Pool" being in the middle of the album, meh, whatever, it's just there and it goes on. I like the sunny sound but do understand why quite a few gay men have an issue with the lyrical content after talking with some people about it. However, given all the shit that the pop-punk world has seen over the past few years, singing "there's something about you that I just can't put my finger in" is creepy as hell, and if you're at some show, and some dude said that to a girl, the reaction would be ... probably violent.

Fair enough. I do agree with what you're saying. I just don't really see why long time Blink fans are surprised at all by these songs. It's how they've always been, especially live. It doesn't mean what they're saying is okay or anything, but yeah, it's just kind of odd that people are shocked.

I still think that the people who were actually offended by Built This Pool were being overly sensitive. I know it may be wrong for me to think that, but that's just my opinion. That song is a prime example of them just being immature, goofing around etc. and it's just thrown in the middle of the album, so it's whatever. But with Brohemian Rhapsody, it's way easier to see how it's obviously offensive to people. There's nothing even goofy about it, it's just creepy as hell.

We have to remember the "scene" that blink is trying to associate with these last few years is the very scene that feels it's okay to molest young girls, blame them for it and then kick them in the back on stage (not saying it's the same band, but just saying they're all in the same ball park as such). To me that is not a scene I have ever felt a part of or ever wanted to be a part of even when I had loved blink for 17 years.

As a WOC in a 99.9% white male dominated space, I'm pretty exhausted trying to explain how and why I constantly feel uncomfortable and looked down upon just because I enjoy a certain genre of music. I always have to defend why I feel a certain amount of respect and understanding should be compulsory but in some ways, I've given up and have sadly settled with the fact that most of the bending is going to have to come from me if I want to continue to enjoy the bands and people I do. I've had to make a mental list of what is "passable" slip ups, "jokes" and behavior and where my staunch line is drawn. It fucking sucks as it is so seeing people defend it is just as disheartening as ever. I understand liking the bands and the music but when someone is doing or saying something that's kind of shitty there's no need to white knight. If the most you're doing is acknowledging that it's shitty, it still helps a lot.

I fail to see how they're trying to associate themselves with the same scene as The Story So Far, etc. They're acting the exact same way they always have, years before any of those bands existed. Nothing has changed. How is that pandering to anyone?

Agreed. Not saying I don't get the disdain for Brohemian, but enough to cancel a preorder or not like the band/album or anything? Please

Definitely understandable how people can be offended by it. Like Jason said, Mark has changed older lyrics so I know he isn't a malicious guy. And I don't know how in touch he is with that stuff going on in the scene. They definitely don't do anything with the thought that "oh the neck deep fans will love this", they have a fanbase that sells out ampitheatres. This is classic blink humor, if not outdated. He changed a word in a common phrase, and you know, his humor just missed the mark. It's certainly not anybody's place to be offended if someone takes umbrage with it considering all we know about the issues the scene has had. I found Built This Pool funny, this really isn't. I'll probably take it off the end if I had to guess.

Honest question: Are any of you people claiming people are "Overly Sensitive" or too "PC," anything other than heterosexual white males?

It will all come down to "if you don't like it, you definitely have the right to say so and explain your side, but you also can't take it away from someone who likes it or misses some classic Blink humor." I'm not offended, I don't think it is very funny, but I will most likely enjoy the hell out of this album. But I would never take it away from someone who thinks it is gross and call them "too PC."

They were goofing around all the time. Even in 2014. Of course nobody cares about Bieber, because everyone makes fun of him. But it's just blink, they always have some jokes or offensive stuff.

I'm a person of color. But I don't think anyone is being PC or overly sensitive.

  21. Honestly, I might not listen to either of the joke songs if I feel that they throw the otherwise great album off. Kinda like how I always skip over "my first punk song" on the BCR album. I can take a couple songs off, burn it to a cd, and be perfectly happy.

PS: Yes, I still burn and primarily use CDs.

That's not very fair. It is possible for people to be overly sensitive, but in this case, I think most people agree that this new song is more on the offensive side.

    Newbie

The awareness and transformation that these kinds of discussions have had (notably this last decade) has radically contributed to the positive changes observable in the attitudes and behaviours surrounding topics of equal human rights. It's my opinion that whilst these issues are still prevalent in our society (perhaps as prevalent as ever), the victory is more so within the growing revolt against the language or activities enabling them.

With this said, there was a time where every member of this forum was either ignorant to or tolerated the themes (albeit not malicious in intent) explored in blinks music and whilst this does not exempt you from trying to inform and educate one another I for one would like to see that communicated with the same compassion and tolerance you likely recieved when you were less informed.

That's my two cents, hope the record is sweet.
