For sure! I was waiting for the crazy auto-tune dubstep effect to blast in like their new song Haha

One big thing I like about Cali compared to Neighborhoods/Dogs Eating Dogs is that I can't tell who had a hand in writing what song. I don't know if it's a Mark/Matt idea, Feldmann's, a cowriter's, etc.

With the Tom releases, it was painfully obvious that Tom and Mark had almost no contribution to each other's songs. I know they used to write separately on the older albums, but with Neighborhoods it was actually obvious that Tom didn't even play guitar on a lot of the songs. Mark probably played a ton of guitar on California, but at least there was no obvious difference in tone so it actually sounds cohesive.

110% agreed. I think I loved Neighborhoods because blink was back (and Mark was finally making new music again), but in retrospect I felt the band was very far apart with sound. Tom songs sounded like they could be on any AVA album (Love Part 3 anyone?) California sounds like just a solid collaboration with guys who thoroughly enjoy playing together. I'll take that ANY day.

How many songs can they start with the same Adams song like riff? Ugh. At least there's no na na nas in this deluxe edition.

There are some cool songs here but half of it feels like filler. Same as the original release. A cut of these songs could form an okay record but all of it it's tiring.

Apart from the reused elements is okay. Hopefully they do something different next record.

I like Pretty Little Girl and Dogs Eating Dogs more than any song here.

i think the new batch is more consistent than the original. some are filler-y but none bad, and plenty are quite good: misery, 6/8, last train home, hey I'm sorry, bottom of the ocean

I see your point. Still, it's them trying something (relatively) new. Can't fault them for that.

I enjoyed Bottom Of the Ocean except some melodies in the verse. It's different and good.

Lyrics wise this isn't great but it has is moments.

Their worst lyrical moment is TOYPAJ. Man, they were too old to be writing that shit.

FUCKIN SAVAGES IN THAT FUCKIN BOX Prestigious

Give Me One Good Reason, First Date and Story Of A Lonely Guy are all below Online Songs. And Happy Holidays for that matter if I count a joke song.

Shut Up has pretty awful lyrics too that I thought were funny at 15

Yeah that's pretty bad too. I honestly have to make a bit of an effort to get through the album front to back at this point.

Wildfire is the standout from this new batch for me.

I like what you guys are doing with trying to re-sequence the album using your favorite tracks from the whole lot.

I will submit my suggestion soon enough.

"The only time I feel alive is when I find something I would die for."

Probably my favorite lyric on all of California DLX.

Always thought that was one of their worst, right next to "Give Me One Good Reason."

The bridge on GMOGR always stuck out for me back in the day. Used to goto that to get pumped before soccer games. Haha.

  23. The good thing about having 28 songs is I can make a playlist of the 12-15 songs I really like and come up with a good album.

California and wildfire are two of their worst songs in my opinion.

Also, I feel like I discover something new with Skiba's voice in every song.

And there's no way Mark didn't rerecord the acoustic bored to death, right?
