Yeah it definitely is, I think he even said so himself. I think that's part of the reason why there were so many Tom only/Tom heavy songs on Neighborhoods and DED.

Yeah and (if I'm remembering correctly) Mark and Tom went in separate rooms and wrote Feeling This, not sure of how fast but I believe it was also quick. So outside of the Untitled album (and including it in that one example) really nothing was out of the ordinary from the past for a healthy blink songwriting process on this record. It's ok to blame the band if you just don't like something lol.

  3. After listen to the whole thing, " Don't Mean Anything ", " Hey I'm Sorry " and " Parking Lot " are the only songs I can truly listen to. With that being said I'll end up buying it just so I can listen to those songs in the car.

Feeling This and I Miss You were written in separate rooms. Dammit and Going Away To College was written in 15 minutes. Rock Show and First Date was written over night. There are plenty of songs that the band did that were written quickly like they did in California.

It's important to note that just because the songs were done fast doesn't mean that they didn't go back and work on them. I believe they said they had like 5 or 6 different choruses for SOOHM before they settled on the end product.

so the thread has definitely gone from feeling like people were positive on the deluxe to me wondering if I should cancel my vinyl and just listen on spotify... haha

You know, the more I listen to this, the more I find to like about it. It's a slow but sure grower for me

Haha I mean you could always check them out, but I feel like some of the reactions here are too harsh. I don't think this thing stacks up to California, but some of these new songs are great. Saying only three of them are even listenable is just a little extreme. I've honestly never said that about any album, even something I hated.

Hasn't killed my hype lol. I heard a couple on a shitty Youtube stream and the unreleased ones seemed better than what's out there already I thought. Still excited to give them a proper listen.

  11. I (unfairly) put this band on such a high pedestal so don't take what I say to heart too much. I'm battling my inner demons in a public forum, haha.

It's darker and more interesting than California proper, but about the same caliber as the rest of the album too. So if you're into the sound of that, then you'll probably like it.

    Let it run Supporter

This is really the only thread on the site where fans pass the blame off on the producer rather than the artist as much as possible.

Seems to me like Mark/Matt just really didn't have too many good ideas. Idk why everyone jumps on Feldmann

Ironically, when Will Yip was announced for the new Menzingers record everyone freaked out and I was just as baffled. Album dropped and no one talks about Yip's involvement at all, only how good the band is at writing songs.

I haven't loved an Alkaline Trio CD since 03 lol. I don't get why we're canonizing Skiba so early either. Goddamnit is a classic and their next few are great albums but cmon. I haven't really enjoyed them since they embraced the vampire schtick

  15. I think people blame Feldmann a lot because you can literally hear all the Feldmann-ness all over it. If you've listened to any of his other production work, you know what you're gonna get when you listen to it because it all have many similarities. And the band hasn't been shy about saying that Feldmann made them do a lot of the stuff that people complain most about. Like, writing lyrics on the spot and adding in "woahs" and "nananas" to just about every song. But whatever, I just hate his production on it. It SOUNDS so plastic and perfect, and I blame that mostly on John and his team of merry gentlemen.

  16. BTW, it's so odd that Mark said "6/8" is the weirdest Blink song they've ever done, but "Bottom of the Ocean" exists.

It's weird people don't like co-writes when San Diego is pretty universally loved, even from people that don't like California over all

With a co-write! Haha that's my point. Co-writes can be positive.

absolutely. my favorite song on California. I think if you look through the last page or so you'll find we kind of came to an agreement that it can be good and/or bad depending, but to blindly say that co-writers are bad or no co-writers is great doesn't make sense.

edit: apologies if my response sounds dickish or arrogant, just trying to not rev up that discussion all over again haha.

Remember when Blink 182 was in American Pie? This band has been mainstream pop punk forever and why people would expect otherwise baffles me. It's not like they even came from some indie success story before they got signed. When I discovered them they had just released Damnit, and that video was loaded with playful humour.

I do like that the band has done some more series tracks, and experimented a bit, but they are staying true to their roots. Hopefully they continue to evolve as the guys continue to make music. And I'm sure there will still be more Trio, and Mark and Travis projects for us.

I'm sure if guys had their way they'd still be working with Jerry Finn on every album. Sadly, that can't happen.

Because we want to hear good songs written by Mark, Matt, and Travis. Not some dude I don't even know.

    Things have changed.

Do you feel less personally connected to it because it's not 'pure'?

Art is collaborative. Good songs are good songs no matter who writes them.
