Mark named it Hold On before Tom suggested they keep it as MH.4.18.2011.

Yeah like it's some kind of a cool artsy title...when really it just makes it hard to ever remember.

I did have fun with it that time we tried coming up with names for a blink-182 Christmas album. "MH.12.25.2012".

I don't get this with blink. Hardly any of their songs have soul or substance. They are Variations on a theme, mostly love or a girl. I can think of STFTK, Adams Song, maybe some of untitled but I think that record was such a perfect storm that it was just a result of the process and where they were at the time. The same with +44 mark was obviously in a darker place for that record. I just never seen blink as the band to give me kind of feeling.

I agree with you in general, but I think it's pretty disingenuous to compare this to ATL as their last several albums showcase much more creativity than anything on these releases.

  6. Well, I'm obviously not an All Time Low fan so I wouldn't know that they've been more creative or whatever lately. This California stuff just reminds me of how I remember ATL sounding.

Maybe circa 2007-2009, but I still think those ATL songs sound more inspired than this stuff. Clearly we just see the band differently though, shrug.

By "substance" I don't mean that their previous songs made me re-think life or anything, ha. I guess I just mean that there qualities about Blink's older music that resonated with me, were interesting, memorable, etc. There's hardly anything memorable about most of the songs from this huge batch of songs. Like, the Descendents, NOFX, Face To Face, and all these other older musicians can still write great punk rock music. Why can't Blink be among those bands?!

Okay here's my definitive California playlist...

    Cynical
    Bored To Death
    Rabbit Hole
    Left Alone
    Misery
    The Only Thing That Matters
    Los Angeles
    6/8
    Last Train Home
    Bottom of the Ocean
    San Diego
    Hey I'm Sorry

I think this is a really cool, solid release. The back half especially does some very interesting things that you wouldn't typically expect from blink. With that being said, I still far prefer Neighborhoods in it's bloated, messy glory.

A handful of those artists have put out stuff that blows anything blink has done in the last 7 years out of the water

And a handful of those artists are garbage

  12. "Bottom of the Ocean" is probably the most forced/unnatural sounding Blink song in their entire discography. People who are excited for the Blinkin Park shows will probably love this song.

  13. That's not saying much though.

Yeah if you offered me a million dollars I couldn't tell you the full title of the MH song. I know it's in April but can never remember the day or year. I mean I get they wanted it to sound different but it's kind of messy should have just named it Hold On instead haha.

Honestly, who cares who wrote what? Those songs are definitely better than a handful of Blink songs that weren't co-written by those specific people. Just seems like a weird thing to go after.

was really hoping the deluxe songs dropped the massive co writers thing. what's wrong with the three of them just writing together? I wouldn't mind them bringing in friends of theirs from other bands to come in and work together, like bring in Patrick Stump, Jim Atkins, Justin Pierre, etc. it's the designated like "pop hit songwriters" that I'd rather not see.

Oh man, that kinda ruins those tracks for me. Dammit Blink-182...This is where I wish Tom was still in the creative process. He wouldn't let that shit fly haha.

Opposing co-writes on principle is possibly the worst take that continues to persist on this website.

  19. to be fair, "Good Old Days" doesn't really sound like it's a track with too much outside input. "Bottom of the Ocean" on the other hand.............. I wish that song would stay at the bottom of the ocean forever, ha.

  20. I'll probably puke when I listen to it. But seriously, seeing everything with these cowriters it makes me wonder how much input Matt really had. Also, it tells me Mark just wants a number one hit.

haha. I like the chorus in that song a lot. I definitely hear Aoki in it.

Feldmann has written for Ashlee Simpson, so if that doesn't faze me, certainly neither of those co-writers do lol.

  23. Co-writing is totally fine by me until it becomes very apparent that the BAND didn't write most of the song.
