Yeah, I thought that was a pretty weird thing to say when you are trying to "sell the song" basically

Yeah I don't see Tom back in the mix, he is going to be busy filming his movie and then doing the soundtrack for it.

    Things have changed.

They actually seem pretty genuine in this interview, though. There was likely still tension, but I wouldn't call it a lie.

Super, super excited to hear the songs that seem to break away from the California mold-- excited to hear "Good Old Days" is dancey keyboard rock, that "6/8" is super heavy and angry and "the strangest song blink has ever recorded", and "Bottom of the Ocean" is built around keyboards. After "Hey I'm Sorry", "Parking Lot", and "Misery" were all duds to average to me, I'm a lot more excited for the deluxe now and it feels good. Even if I wish "Can't Get You More Pregnant" didn't exist already.

Well, they said they were going to record, but they didn't.

I get what you mean though. I don't think Tom didn't care at all about Blink, and he could have been genuinely excited about recording when they did this interview. He especially seemed excited during this era when they dropped of from their label and recorded DED. He really seems like a guy that has a hard time being focused on one thing, making promises he can't keep.

Man, it's not even a studio recording of Bored to Death. Was really looking forward to that. Too bad.

Also, sounds like John has more of a writing influence than I thought.

Can't wait to hear these experimental songs though.

6/8 is an angry song about betrayal so naturally everyone is going to think it's about Tom lol

  9. If I remember right, Mark didn't sound good on the videos from that show, especially on BTD, soooo we'll see how that goes. Maybe they overdubbed some vocals in the studio.

Also, yeah, Wildfire sounds like it's going to be pretty bland, lyrically at least. Hope the song in general is awesome.

  10. Knowing me, I'll love it all. I'm pretty much incapable of disliking Blink songs outside of a few tracks on Neighborhoods

Well this is Kingston. This is probably the cleanest one they did if this is the one they recorded. Mark sounds pretty fine to me.

I think some of the stuff from California is really cool, and i enjoy Skiba being a part of the band. I really dislike hearing that they're building entire songs from ideas Feldmann comes up with though... doesn't feel right. I really liked Misery the first couple of listens, but now it just feels sorta generic.

Now, people can answer and say that "well, jerry finn did the same thing". This could perhaps be correct, but Finn was around on every album since Enema and had deep connection with the band. To me, Feldmann is just some new guy that they're allowing to write parts of their songs, and i don't like that.

To clarify: I'm not one of those that blame Feldmann for some of the, in my view, lackluster songs that Blink has put out. At the end of the day it's the band's decision to allow the producer to have the control that he has. Feldmann is just doing his job, suggesting to the band what he thinks is good music.

It blows my mind that they still don't have a proper studio recorded acoustic version of any of their songs

  16. Yeah, they should have done an acoustic album a long time ago.

Jerry Finn absolutely gave them song ideas, whether it was lyric ideas, guitar tones or whatever. What Went Wrong, All of This, Easy Target just to name a few all come from ideas Finn had or lyrics suggested to them. The problem is in the late 90s, early 2000s the band wasn't openly talking about how they recorded nor were song credits viewed the same as they were today.

Finn helped blink with 3 albums Enema, TOYPAJ and Untitled. Feldmann has essentially helped the band so far with 2.

  21. my top 10 songs i'd want studio acoustic versions of:

    bored to death
    after midnight
    i miss you
    stay together for the kids
    adam's song
    josie
    always
    going away to college
    don't leave me
    dammit
    bonus track: family reunion

  22. Studio version of acoustic Waggy that they were doing live a few years back

  23. i switched out Waggy for Josie on my list.... i feel like Josie is more realistic, but hell, i'd take an entire Dude Ranch acoustic album if it meant we'd get recordings of Waggy, Pathetic, and Apple Shampoo, haha.
