I think this is one of the ones that got left off the album initially too. I know that information is in some interview. I think 6/8 and Wildfire were from the first go-around. Not sure. I'll have to try to find something lol

Fair enough. I mean, I pretty much like all of it - I was stoked when Neighborhoods came out (not as much for DED) and loved Untitled. But I also really like the goofy earlier stuff too.

Comparing those two songs makes no sense. Golden Showers is a joke song that probably any producer would say "Eh Tom you sure this should be a full length song?" at least Built This Pool and Brohemian were 15 and 30 seconds.

 

blink wanted these to be on a new LP but the label said "No, deluxe version of California instead", so I'm treating these as though they're regular songs and not just throwaway b-sides that didn't make the original album

Did they ever say they specifically wanted to put out a new album that soon? Right when California came out they said right from the get-go they were just going to put out an EP of the extra songs. Then they just ended up doing more. I thought that was more of an answer for people confused why so many more songs aren't a standalone album? I could've missed something I suppose lol.

I find it hard to believe any band would take songs from a previous writing session (which at least 4 of these are I think) and start a brand new album with those.

 

I feel like if they held the songs for a new album they would almost certainly toss them and start from scratch in a year or so like they tossed stuff they wrote before California. Maybe some ideas would stay like Tom did with the Up All Night riff and some other song I think (edit: the Wishing Well riff was around for awhile too)

 

At 1:26 from Travis: "We kind of fucked up and wrote an entire new album. But with them still working California we just can't release a new album."

 

So he definitely doesn't say: "blink wanted these to be on a new LP but the label said "No, deluxe version of California instead"" here.

He's saying they wrote enough songs for a new album instead of an EP, but the album itself is still doing well so there's no reason to do another full length now and promote it, so they are releasing these this way instead of the EP they originally talked about doing way back with the release of the album.

 

4 pages have happened since I've been asleep 8hrs. Let's just assume there's been a song before I read anything.


Time to go back and read them....

 

Yea I'm guessing these are all newly recorded songs tho. even if they are based off of earlier demos

 

Couple more listens of the song, I still don't really like it. Nothing remotely close to the feeling I got with "BTD."

That said I didn't love the other singles they released for that album, and still really enjoy that album as a whole. So I'm not that worried. Gonna cop a vinyl for the collection.

 

"Hey I'm Sorry" has been around for a while now.

Thouuuuuughts time from Munich:
Good song, love the energy and matts menzingeresque verse. But the na na nas are really a pain in the ass at this point. They could have at least gone with "on and on-s".

I like it, but I will also echoe the dudes before me that said a bit more experimenting would be fine. I want more songs like BTD, SD, LA instead of songs like SOOHM.

I always thought that those were likely for the Goldfinger album or somebody else since none of those titles looked familiar and they've been pretty consistent with song titles (like they had one of these snaps earlier on with the board in the background that was pretty much all the titles we heard announced now)

I was half right, 4 songs from the original California session but Parking Lot, Misery and Wildfire are all brand new ones. Still pretty sure 6/8 was one of the original cuts.
