Straight dude going to extreme lengths to see naked men isn't a gay joke?

"I'm not sexually attracted to guys, but it's funny that I would go to extreme lengths to see naked men because hahaha I'm not gay! That's just silly!"

"If I build a swimming pool then of course naked dudes will hang out at it because obviously all gay dudes hang out naked at a straight guys house!"

Okay, I'm clearly in the minority here, so i'm not gonna fight it, but legitimately where do y'all draw the line?

Cause it sounds like the argument is ALL sex-based humor is wrong because it trivializes people's experiences, when I'd argue it's the opposite, it takes difficult and awkward subjects and levels the playing field because it's something most people can relate to.

I get the argument, but I feel like sexual expression isn't inherently misogynistic, and equating attraction to objectification, especially in fiction and personal anecdotes is completely missing the point.

Of all the things posted on the last page, I most agree with this with regard to BTP. I don't find Built This Pool to be homophobic; just INCREDIBLY stupid and not in a way that's even remotely funny coming from an adult. Like...Mark wrote that.

i just still can't believe that "brohemian rhapsody" is a song. even for a joke song, it's not remotely funny... like, it hardly even makes sense. i don't get it.

It's funny when people just assume a song isn't doing well on radio because THEY haven't heard it on the radio personally.

 

Actually, now that I think about, y'all are kinda right: I get it that writing about being gay when you're not is kinda fucked up, I just don't really think in Gay or Straight binaries-- I'm Pansexual, so I honestly never really thought about it.

I just think generally, when writing about sex, it's best to sort of avoid the straight male perspective, so you don't seem like a creep. Like especially writing sex jokes about women is a cheap shot because it's punching down on a group that's often shamed for expressing their sexuality. But sex needs two people, so you either write about two men which is considered problematic, or write about at least one woman, which is also considered problematic, so there is really no winning.

Also, it did legitimately never occur to me the punchline of 'Built This Pool' was "I wanna see some naked dudes" because, while it's funny because it's just saying one of those things we all think but no one ever says, it sets up the premise of the joke, which is that this dude built a whole pool just for the off chance someone decides to skinny-dip in it, which is hillarious imo.

But if y'all think it's problematic, my bad, I must've misread it.
