Yes and it is possible to still acknowledge what he's done for the band while also respecting the current line up. Don't understand why there isn't a middle ground with this fan base.....

 

I saw them play Enema last month so I don't need to spend a billion dollars to see them do it again on this next tour, if that's what they actually end up doing.

I'm interested to see how they play "Blame It On My Youth" live. I assume they'll use a fair amount of backing tracks.

 

Mark said they'd do Enema at "some shows", wonder if they'd lead toward that for the shows Wayne isn't playing. That'd be cool, since I'm going to Holmdel.

Tom is the past. He should stay in the past, but people bring him up in here as if he is still in the band. It’s weird.

I mean this is the first year that they're up for the rock hall, there's always going to be that conversation. Same with album anniversaries.

 

Party Song is probably a nice song to warm up with.

Thanks for sharing this, probably the most eloquent and coherent explanation of what Tom is currently doing we've seen from him so far.

 

Because blink's current iteration doesn't exist in a vacuum from the period of time Tom was in the band. That's still the most iconic version of band, and it'll still probably be a while until blink with Matt gains the stature of Tom-era blink.

It's not like Tom was some weird guitarist who played in the band for 2 years then bounced, he was one of their main songwriters, frontman, and key to the band's legacy.

I love Tom to death, I'm not gonna whine for him to come back when they're making perfectly good music with Matt, and he's chasing his dreams. But I do think it's perfectly valid to make criticisms of this band in comparison to their previous work.

 

Sigh So we are on this part of the cycle again today.

 

Would it be worth just creating a "Tom era" Blink thread? probably wouldn't help haha

As much as I hate dropping the name "Brand New"....them sending out a new album to the fan mailing list was a cool idea to drop an album.

I think The Wonder Years did something similar? Maybe it was an EP or something. Can't remember
