I had that book Mark’s sister put together, and it certainly made a point to say Mark & Tom were blood brothers, but after years of hearing about how weird Tom truly was/is, in retrospect, it feels like the flame burned out quickly once they achieved the success they had with Dude/Enema. After that, it all changed—but they did a decent job of presenting everything as three goofs who aren’t great at their jobs but hey we have fun onstage and tell dirty jokes.

One of those infamous AP.net days. I vividly remember reading about it at the computer lab in college and it was like I had swallowed a brick at first... but then it became clearer and clearer to me once all the AvA bullshit Tom spouted like, immediately after the initial statement.

  12. Someone stole this from me in college and I'm kinda bummed I don't have it for my collection anymore. I don't wanna drop another $20 on something that stupid.

  13. "They're young. They're sexually active. And they play their own instruments."

The tagline for that book. God, no wonder so many bought into the worst cliches and tropes about music for years.

Lol, yeah it’s pretty tough to look back at shit like that and not cringe.

I wonder if I have that book still. Might have donated it, but I’ll look in my parents’ storage and see what comes up. I may have given it to my brother at one point.

  15. I keep mine on a shelf in my edit bay next to a Walter Murch book. You know, the classics.

Are we talking about "Tales from beneath your mom"? I still have it. Asking my parents to get it for me one xmas was almost as fun as asking for Take off Your Pants and Jacket for my bday. Great titles you guys!

still never got around to reading that. says a lot about me that i'm still willing to buy a copy off amazon in 2019 for what is now a super out-dated and likely a bit of a cringeworthy read
also still have to get my hands on Can I Say as well, i've plenty of homework ahead of me!

I vaguely remember being kind of weirded out whenever Untitled was released. It took me a little while to fully appreciate that record, but beyond the making-of videos, I just got a weird vibe from every interview and video I saw at that time. I know they were going for a more "mature" image, but I felt like they were all constantly bummed out/stressed out or something. The imagery and tone of all of their music videos and performances also just felt dark and unhappy.

I had fallen off the bandwagon for a while so by the time they broke up I was just like "Ah, makes sense".

  23. It’s apparently the anniversary of BCR today so I pulled this out of the box in my office. I think it was part of an Internet preorder thing with loser kids maybe? I honestly forget.
