I always interpreted BTD as being about a failed relationship. Matt’s part is about the memories of when it was young and fresh, Marks verse and the bridge/ chorus are about being bored and comfortable in a relationship doomed from the start

SC EP gets better with every listen.

Yeah I think the most plausible answer is that the act of being bored in a relationship makes everything feel dragged out? So that's the "lasting long" part, and there's no reason to waste life (life is short) on the relationship. Something like that probably

I might get hate for this but I feel like Alex would have been a better replacement than Matt. The show last night was the most fun I’ve ever seen Mark have.

"Rescuing a tiger from a tree" is also a sexual manoeuvre but I wouldn't attempt it unless you're a real expert.

I think I've said it before, but I'm surprised Alex wasn't asked to be honest. Probably would have been the "safer" bet, as in would most directly replace Tom and the sound they had, whereas I think Matt gives them a chance to expand the sound a bit and move forward, rather than look back (I say that knowing that the album they did with Matt is a total attempt at a throwback record and didn't progress their sound at all, but still).

I would've loved that. The problem with Matt is that his vocal tone is low like Mark's. Alex has a higher pitched voice and they would've complemented each other better.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

ATL is a lot bigger than Alkaline Trio, I don’t think Alex wanted to put his band on the back burner to join.

Also Matt is right around Mark and Travis's age and they have about the same experience. I just looked up Alex, he's only 31. Not saying age matters per say, but blink are beyond veterans and so it makes sense to me that they replace Tom with another veteran.

Man thoughts is.. When you are bored time goes by slowly. So kinda saying be productive and live a happy life? Sorta thing.

I'm sure there were a bunch of reasons why the asked Matt, but I assumed it was because he was a friend of both Mark and Travis (instead of pulling in an acquaintance of one or the other). Plus, he is a peer of theirs whereas someone like Alex might kind of be more of a "next generation" sort of figure. Someone like that just seems like more of a logical fit experience-wise and stylistically.

Yeah peer is exactly what I was gonna say. I knew this talking point was gonna come up lol.

Being older I never really got into ATL. He has a good voice, and I'm enjoying the EP but I've never been into his vocal style. Also when I saw them in 16 opening for blink their banter is still terrible. I feel like if he replaced Tom he'd try too hard to replicate that as well and it doesn't bother me one bit that Matt isn't a big chatterbox on stage. You can't replicate what Tom and Mark had at their best.

Agreed. I'm not totally familiar with ATL to be honest so I didn't want to make that point, but yeah, I feel like taking anyone who (by their own admission) grew up on blink you might run the risk of them trying too hard to meet fan expectations or replicating the blink with Tom. Whereas with Matt, he doesn't give a shit about that because he didn't grow up being inspired by blink.

Also ATL started as a blink cover band and they still cover blink songs live all the time, so I think seeing an iteration of blink with Alex would be really fun. Plus I think since he's worked with Feldmann before, he would work better with him and be a good 'translator' of sorts.

Alex is a better singer than Matt but I think ATL is a little TOO pop punk for what Mark probably wanted long term if that makes any sense. Alkaline Trio always had more of an edge to them. Probably why he's doing the pure pop thing with Alex now instead.
