  1. Heh, kinda funny to read because I was just thinking how much I hate how the guitars sound in the mix on the new Millencolin album.

Yup absolutely. Again if California isn't what you like so be it but the album did exactly what the band NEEDED to do to get them back in the mainstream again after being away from it really since 2004. Now that the band is back to being popular again they can afford to take more chances and risk with this album.

I know I made the joke a while back but it is very possible that Feldmann might have saved the band by getting them back to their pop punk roots instead of releasing those dark demos they talked about.

I just want the new album to sound like Blink 182. It can be a familiar Blink 182, a something new Blink 182, or combination of both.

I like that bands have other/side projects to experiment with, and bring back what works to their main or other band. As in, I don’t want a Blink 182 rap or hip hop album, but I think it’s cool for them to incorporate Travis rap and hip hop abilities and styles. I don’t want an entirely dark Blink 182 album, but bringing in some of Matt’s skills that he uses in his other projects adds something different. Same for Mark and his interest in production. Being different than California is ok with me and I really enjoyed that nostalgic Blink 182 sound.

Album did well and sparked new energy into the band. It was a great decision, and a nice way to intro Matt while maintaining a Blink sound to transition fans

I think the issue is Feldmann and his crew cut off all the low end on the guitars. It's basically just highs and mids, and lack any low end whatsoever. They just sound tinny and fake. Which... also may be true. If they're plugging directly in and using only digital amps, that's going to make them sound even worse. There's no warmth in digital amps. The Millencolin album's guitars sounds better than California's, at least. Millencolin's guitars are much louder in the mix though, which is kind of irritating, haha.

The Millencolin guitars on the new album remind me a lot of some (late 1990’s/early 2000’s) Bad Religion stuff. Now that you point it out, the guitars do seem a little more loud in the mix. Still a killer album though lol.

But yes, the Feldmann/crew guitar production makes the guitars sound lifeless.

  7. The guitars on "Brohemian Rhapsody" really show off how horrible they made them sound across the whole album. So awful.

  8. I think the term "no balls" is gross af, but, that aside, I don't think SOS's guitars sound better than California's, I think they sound actively worse.

  9. Yeah, I see what you mean now... My bad...

"The guitars lack any low end whatsoever" is what I meant and should have said

You'd be surprised how many people are using amp sims/kemper on recordings. Hard to tell the difference.

Hard to be excited about a new album when Travis takes the opportunity to condemn an abuser and instead lifts him up as some musical genius.

Anybody that tried to lift Ryan Adams, R. Kelly, or Tim Lambesis up as a musical genius’ right now would be torn to shreds but for some reason Travis Barker gets a free pass on it.

    Gross.

  12. If they do it in a way where you can't tell the difference, good for them. They've got a great engineer and producer. But as far as Feldmann's engineering/production goes, you can definitely tell.

Yeah I know Travis works with everyone who asks basically but when he gets the platform to actually condemn the actions of an abuser, and he actively avoids doing so, hard to be too excited by the rest of the interviewer. Lionizing the myth of a tortured male genius and minimizing real violence he did is not the way to talk about this stuff.

Even if I was intrigued that he was making a Juice WRLD beat that’s now a blink-182 song

This is usually a byproduct of mixes that go for "loudness" which is how both of those albums sound. They cut off the low end because there isn't much space in the mix for any of the dynamic range of the guitar (and the low end of the guitar is the most expendable). Then they compress the hell out of everything and those unwanted frequencies get boosted. "Tinny" was exactly the word I was thinking of. Both of those albums have guitars that almost hurt my ears when you play them very loud.

Travis could have condemned him, but nothing he could have said would have condemned XXXtentacion as much as those bullets did. He’s dead. Maybe Travis avoided the topic, because he hesitated before answering and chose to speak about his personal and work experience with him. If he were alive, maybe Travis would have spoken differently about him. Or not. He’s been in an emotionally abusive sounding relationship as well, so I’d imagine he can relate.

You don’t have to be excited for a new Blink album though if you feel that way about Travis. That’s fair.

I’d say hearing people describe Ted Bundy as “hot” is a far grosser thing I’ve heard recently than Travis ducking an opportunity.

Also, I think Ryan Adams, and R Kelly are under investigation, and Tim Labesis is in prison. It’s nice to see criminal action being taken on those types of people.

Anyway, new Blink album and Simple Creatures Ep’s sound exciting. These boys are nice and busy.

It’s not a competition. Travis and people who think Ted Bundy are hot can both be gross!

Also if XXX was alive my guess is Travis would probably have said the same thing or defended him vigorously.

Maybe. Hopefully not though. He didn’t defend him vigoursly there but danced around it.

There can be varying degrees of gross. I’d still say speaking positively about a seria killer/stranger who you know killed and raped 30+ people and a guy not willing to call out an abuser who he had a working and personal relationship are different. Neither has a good look though.

The whole X thing with Travis leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. He even got a fucking tattoo in honor of him.

Sure. They are different. So different one might say they’re unrelated, and wonder why you brought one up at all to deflect from the other.

Both are current pop culture talking points, and people’s opinions on people who have done bad things.

If Travis comments upset you, I think you have every right to say it. If it’s turns you off listening to Blink, then he has to live with the consequences his comments have on fans. I wasn’t defending his position, or lack of position. I was really just saying why he maybe said what he said, or didn’t say. I’m sure the interviewer had an answer they wanted to hear if it was a planned question and they are good at their job.

I don’t really need to deflect or take a personal stance on behalf of Travis. He’s lived through losing his mother young, a plane crash, losing some of his closest friends and a messy relationship/divorce. I’m sure he’ll survive this XXX comment.

I am looking forward to a new Blink album still. If you are no longer looking forward to it, that’s fine too. To each their own.

yes, we are all worried that Travis will survive his comments, that is exactly what we are all worried about here.

Are Travis comments or unwillingness to make a negative comment about xXX abusive past enough to make you stop listening to Blink 182?

    Yes or no?

I think that’s the point Ben was bringing up, and he sounded like a Yes (or maybe yes since I don’t want to speak on his behalf. Since this is an important topic (domestic violence) and the band is coming out with a new album (and I’m sure a single before that), I am curious to hear people’s answer.

    So Yes or no?

I’m at the point I probably won’t give them any money for music/tours with his support of X.
