Just dropping in to say that the 5SOS album was solid and so much better than their last one.

FUCKIN SAVAGES IN THAT FUCKIN BOX Prestigious

Everyday my first thought is basically how crushed I am that Tom's creative masterpiece Golden Showers in the Golden State will never be a full blink song

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

I definitely don’t think Tom is the answer to my Blink issues though. That’s just dumb lol

I feel the same way, I wanna be stoked but I know I can't because I feel like it's going to be recycled.

This post rings true. I really think there’s no way to make everyone happy because even with other bands, there’s always fans who don’t like whatever they’re doing no matter what their sound is like. If blink changed dramatically people would be angry, some would like it.

I’ve liked every blink release, and I presume I’ll like the next one regardless how it sounds.
As long as it isn’t as bad as that terrible Tom solo album.

Hm, I don't really get bored by music I like. I spin Dude Ranch, Untitled, and TOYPAJ probably several times a year, every year. Along with most of my other favorite albums. The new Death Cab album has me going through their discography again and even though I have most those records memorized I still love taking them in again.

I'm sure I'll enjoy the next album because looking back on Mark's output as a writer, I like the majority of it a whole hell of a lot. I doubt that'll change. But even with him, fun pop punk records don't hold up all that much for me past the initial enjoyment anymore, even though I'm always looking for a reason to love new blink-182 music. I guess my main hope is that he pushes himself lyrically, I like California's introspective, emotional songs (Cynical, San Diego, Home is Such a Lonely Place) a lot, when he gets a bit darker, angstier, or more melancholy.

Wow I didn't realize people liked Sober so much. Wouldn't crack my top 5 for California. Barely my top 10. Top 5 would go:

    Bored to Death
    Rabbit Hole
    Cynical
Home Is Such A Lonely Place
    Left Alone

Yup so true. If blink keeps making the same album people will complain, if they do something totally different other people will complain that it's not like their other albums. Artists, especially ones that have been around for 20 plus years, are in a no win situation. Just like how a lot of musicians say that after they put out a new album and tour, half the crowd wants only the new songs and the other half are mad they aren't playing their old stuff.

I agree I liked every blink release so I'm sure I will like the next one whatever direction they take it in.

Since everyone else was doing top 5 California Songs:

    Bored To Death
    Cynical
    No Future
    Rabbit Hole
    Sober

    If we’re counting the deluxe:

    Bored To Death
    Cynical
    No Future
    Misery
    Last Train Home

I was just revisiting Foxy's S/T on my morning commute and the production on that album is so good. It had nearly perfect polish for the chaos they bring.

"The songs from California don't hold up to anything from Untitled"

It's been 15 years since Untitled came out, and Tom has probably written less than 5 songs in that time span that I actually enjoy listening to more than once.

And yeah, like other people said about the gold record... I have tons of friends who loved blink growing up but were pretty much indifferent to Neighborhoods or didn't really even listen to it (one of those friends actually asked me a few weeks ago when DED came out because he had never heard of it). Meanwhile, California was on constant rotation for us all summer with 90% of that being solely because of how big "Bored to Death" was. So I'm super happy for them even if there are a few things about the record that annoy me a little because it was awesome to see the buzz they generated that otherwise would have never happened.

  19. There’s actually only one thing I don’t want on the next record and it’s a 20 second joke song

I still believe Sober would have had the most mainstream appeal if pushed as a single.

California became THE Summer record for me - and I really hadn't had one of those in awhile, especially from a pop-pink band.

I return to a bunch of the singles still - and the other day I put the windows down and listened to it through while I was out running errands. Still holds up. I like a few of the Deluxe tracks - but I view it as more of a b-sides album (even if that wasn't what was intended).

Whoever is in charge of that department for blink fucked up with that one. Blows my mind still that wasn’t a radio hit.
