That makes me wonder how big Mest really were in States around 2002?

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

I love that song too, Ilan really brought the atmosphere to it, but then again I really like that whole damn album. Just Tom bringing simple pop vibes with some of his best ever melodies, lyrics that are actually halfway heartfelt/emotional, and Ilan going hard on the instrumentals. I totally get why AVA gets the side-eye from most fans (man could they wank themselves off on the early albums) but TDW/Chasing Shadows are just super good pop albums

Mest supported GC on their first “big” uk tour and then headlined much smaller venues themselves supported by Fall Out Boy and the god awfuls. When they reformed a couple of years back they played a tiny venue here in Manchester and there were maximum 30 people there which included the local supports. They are touring here again next month and are playing in a pub in Bolton.

I mean they were pretty much in same line with Good Charlotte and SUM41 when we talk about the sound (I know Feldman produced GC and Mest both at the time?) and those two were huge in my country in their prime time. But it maybe has something to do with the fact that Czech Republic never had huge base of pop punk/punkrock fans at least what I remember people would rather go buy pack of smokes and beer than pay for the show

  17. You wouldn't know them. They aren't Tom Delonge.

  18. I saw Mest with The Ataris and Hawthorne Heights a year or two and it was fun. I remember download a bunch of Mest songs off of Napter or Kazaa back in the day, and I loved them. I hadn't ever seen them so it was pretty nostalgic singing along with "Drawing Board" and "Long Days Long Nights" at the show. They put on a pretty good show too.

Midtown/Mest/Good Charlotte was one of my favorite shows I've ever been to

Your comment just made me realize I saw Simple Plan and Good Charlotte when I was like 13. I totally blocked that from my memory, I'm pretty sure.

The only distinct memories I have are that they duct taped the bass player of Simple Plan to his mic stand so he wouldn't move so much, and also the bass player of Good Charlotte played the opening riff of "Sincerely Me" when they started talking about New Found Glory. That's about it.

Just found this Jimmy Eat World article on the AV Club, https://music.avclub.com/moving-out-from-the-middle-60-minutes-of-eternal-ado-1827436684

and this line stood out to me: "That would be kind of perfect, honestly. Because at heart, Jimmy Eat World is a teenage band. Not a juvenile band, incapable of letting go of its salad days, but a band that speaks directly to teenagers—"

Do you think Blink is a 'teenage" band or a "juvenile" band?

  24. This is the most 2002 lineup I’ve ever seen

A little bit of column a and a little bit of column b. Casual fans would say juvenile.

I think they regressed back to a teenage band for some odd reason. NFG does a good job of having fast catchy tunes while also having a more mature perspective (Party on Apocalypse, Stories of a different kind ) whereas blink started writing songs about skateboarding in parking lots (speaking in present time) and being the kings of the weekend at 46. Also, taking Vicodin and cheating on gf, cool..
