Feldmann: That's great guys! I want Mark to sing the first verse, Matt gets the 2nd and the chorus, then Mark gets the bridge and last chorus. Also just add some Ohhhhhs and give me that original sounding blinkish opening guitar riff that we used on every single California song and it's another #1 song.

  3. Back in the day, Modlife had "Modcasts." I downloaded almost ALL of them. The best thing to come out of that was Matt Wachter had a show for at least 4 episodes called "Getting to Know You." In that, he interviewed Mark Eaton. I pulled this clip I remembered loving and thought I would share with you all in case you missed it back in the day:

It's probably Mark's best written album ever. All of his songs are great and he has some underrated gems like Lemmings and Waggy. Even his worst song, A New Hope, is still a fun and creative song. The only thing that holds that album back for me is Tom's songs like Voyeur, Boring and Degenerate. They're just blah and didn't age well at all. Although I have come to appreciate some of his deeper cuts like Enthused and I'm Sorry a lot more now.

It's too bad that once blink hit it big with Enema/TOYPAJ that they essentially stopped playing Dude Ranch songs on their set lists other than Dammit and sometimes Josie. I'd love to hear them play the deeper cuts of this album live.

Dude Ranch is far and away Mark's best writing. And it is definitely not Tom's lol

  14. For sure. Tom didn't get good until the BCR album.

Peak Hoppus is Enema to me. Don’t Leave Me, Going Away to colege, WMAA, the party song, Wendy clear.

Agree with the thoughts here about Dude Ranch. Mark's songs are all A+ on that record while Tom has just a handful of good ones. The rest of his are just weird on that album. I would say they were pretty split on the next couple of records though.

I wouldn't necessarily say Tom wasn't good back then ("Carousel" is one of my all-time favorites), but it definitely didn't "click" for him early on like Mark's stuff. "Dammit" is really what teed them up to become superstars.

I Honestly think the +44 album is Marks best work.

To me, Mark absolutely carried blink until TOYPAJ, that's the first album I listen to and say I can't really say Mark's songs are better than Tom's because they are pretty equal to me. Tom definitely had some good songs in those earlier albums but Mark's overshadowed them.

Enema was close but Mark's output of Don't Leave Me, Going Away to College, WMAA, Adam's Song and Wendy Clear are better than Tom's Dumpweed, Gary, ATST, Mutt and Anthem.

Yeah good point, I like those songs better overall than his Dude Ranch songs but it's close to me. Dammit, I might have underrated Mark's Enema songs now.

I agree. But to be fair, a lot of those "Mark songs" wouldn't be at all as good if it wasn't for Tom's guitar input. Assuming Tom wrote the riffs for Dammit, Adam's song, WMAA etc. (Correct me if Im wrong)

  24. "The Party Song" is definitely not peak Mark, but I guess I can see the appeal.

  25. as legend has it... Mark wrote the Dammit riff on an acoustic guitar that was missing some strings. I think Mark also played the acoustic guitar bridge on Adam's Song too. shrug.
