Well, happy 20th birthday to TOYPAJ!
It was my first blink album (got it for christmas that year) and probably the most important album of my life, seeing how it influenced my music taste. It feels kinda surreal to think that it has been twenty years since I listened to it on repeat on my new CD-walkman while playing Roller Coaster Tycoon on my dad's laptop for days on end. Very nostalgic memories for sure!

  5. I remember buying it on release day! I got the one with What Went Wrong and (I think?) time to break up

My CD was the slip case, and it had What Went Wrong and Time To Break Up on it. That album changed my life and helped form my taste in music.

  8. Enema was my first Blink album, but I was in 9th grade when TOYPAJ came out. I remember before it came out, all my friends and I were like “If it’s not a punk album than we’re OUT!” but then we heard “The Rock Show” and were fully onboard haha. I remember all the promo leading up to the album. All the TRL performances and everything. I remember the premiere of the Rock Show video, etc. I remember that time very well. I also remember buying the CD and not actually knowing there was a sticker on the front to indicate which version you were getting, so my friends and I compared which ones we got like they were a pack of trading cards haha. And then we sat around a tiny stereo on the floor and listened to all the bonus tracks together. I had the green one with “When You Fucked Grandpa” and “Don’t Tell Me It’s Over.” I was really jealous of my friend Cory who got the one with “What Went Wrong” because I instantly loved that one since it was acoustic and I was deep in my acoustic solo project (Brad’s One Man Band) at that point. I ended up covering that song a couple times at shows haha.

    Top 3 TOYPAJ songs:
    Everytime I Look For You
    Please Take Me Home
    Roller Coaster

FUCKIN SAVAGES IN THAT FUCKIN BOX Prestigious

The Game Boy Advance came out the same week so this was like the best week ever. I eventually got all three variants of the album at the record store across from where I went to high school, still have all three

By the time I got the record in 2011 my version didn’t have any bonus tracks. I was 4 when the album came out lol

I really want to know why What Went Wrong was left off the main album.

TOYPAJ is their best sounding album, I feel like it’s Jerry Finn’s best work. It just sounds like a big summer album. It’s also peak guitar playing for Tom too.

I totes agree with it being their best sounding album. Also how I feel about the BCR release. Unbelievably ageless production on those albums. I remember Tom talking about how Jerry really honed in on the clean tones more than anything on TOYPAJ and how it was a fantastic foundation to build on.

  18. I still have my original green one from release day. The digipack is pretty banged up and flirty though haha.

Green here. Also my favorite blink record. It’s all hits no misses but also came at just the right time. I was in 8th grade when Enema came out and saw them with NFG and AK3 for this tour as the album dropped. A seminal moment, one that lead time to still discussing this music on here with all of you 20 years later.

Best bonus track, I’m biased, but it’s “Don’t Tell Me that it’s Over.” An absolute barnburner.

Still have my Day 1 Red Digipack. Would anyone else swap out three non-joke songs on the album for the three non-joke bonus tracks?

    Def.

Tell “Give Me One Good Reason” and “Shut Up” to take a hike

  22. what? no way.

the second half of TOYPAJ is pop-punk perfection and I'd argue no band in the genre has come close to that.

clearly the bonus tracks were replaced by First Date and Rock Show

  23. No need to swap anything imo. Have had them on the end forever and that’s a great place for them.

  24. a perfect coda if you will

Shut Up is great, I like Time To Break Up a bit more but I don’t feel strongly about it.

Give Me One Good Reason is way too cringe for me. Even on an album of epically cringe lyrics, that one is brutal. Amazing mix tho

A more Dude Ranchy sequence is cool, but I don’t have the attention span for a 16 song pop punk album. That said, Happy Holidays n Give Me One Good Reason are the only easy cuts in my world
