How the hell is Black Rain bland

There are so many different sounds going on on Nine I don’t get how the songs can sound samey at all.

    Also, Black Rain rules.

  3. There's also a lot of catchy songs on it

Nine is really good. If that album was a bands debuts I’d still feel the same way. 2020 pop punk.

Heaven, Blame It On My Youth, Pin The Grenade, No Heart To Speak Of, On Some Emo Shit off the top of my head have the catchiest hooks I can think of in their entire catalog.

  6. If I could only choose 3 Blink albums to bring with me on a desert island, without a doubt, I'd bring Untitled, Dude Ranch, and Nine.

  9. The third one is the big choice ... it’s either Enema or Nine for me.

I was with you until you slandered Black Rain. I agree that it is way too same-y, but how did you pick one of the few songs that aren't?

Untitled, Dude Ranch, and probably TOYPAJ? Maybe a coin flip between Enema and Nine. That third spot is tricky.

OK, I get it, you like Black Rain. Meanwhile, if I was forced to choose a song to listen to on Nine it would probably be Pin the Grenade or Ransom.

I honestly can't fathom choosing Nine over Enema or TOYPAJ, much less S/T.

I disagree, but I can at least understand this argument if you're basing it on consistency. If you generally like the sound Nine is going for then it does maintain that tone throughout. California is admittedly all over the place in terms of quality. It's a bloated record that could have been 12 or 13 tracks instead of 16.

Neighborhoods is unfairly hated. It's not to the level of the prior material but I think it's still pretty good all things considered. Tom's vocals are... controversial to put it mildly, but it kind of grows on you. I'll take "Natives," "Wishing Well," "Heart's All Gone" and "Even if she Falls" over anything from California or Nine.

  20. I agree that California is very bloated, especially when you add in the deluxe tracks.

Neighborhoods is okay, at best. The guitars on "Natives" sound so bad that I end up skipping it every time, haha. That album just sounds so bad. The other 3 songs you mentioned though are definitely the best on Neighborhoods, except I'd add "After Midnight" to the list.

    BUT

Nine has more good songs than bad songs, and sounds better than Neighborhoods does. I'd take "Pin The Grenade" over any of the Neighborhoods songs you mentioned, and that's not even the best song on the album.

California has way too many songs that sound like a different band is trying to write Enema 2.0

Ok, I never really tried to figure out the lyrics to "Go", and I feel dumb now cuz it's deep and I dig that. I mean, sad yea, but good.

But, do we really not know if it's a true Mark story?? I'd be afraid to ask him though, if it was. Thats terribly sad for whomever its about!

  23. Neighborhoods is not unfairly hated. It sounds terrible.
