That All the Small Things breakdown is a great way to show how damn good Jerry Finn was.

It's so crazy for me to see Mod Sun. I knew that dude when he rolled through Ohio with one of his early bands The Semester back in 2004-2005. They called him Hollywood and welp... dude hangs with famous folks haha.

He drummed for Four Letter Lie and Scary Kids Scaring Kids as well. We played a show with Four Letter Lie just after he left and it makes sense why he and Kevin went on to do big things and Brian was left in his misery.

I don’t really know. The singer was not a great person to be around that night though. He was incredibly rude and negative so it makes sense that his band mates kinda took off after doing their own things and he never really did.

I just found out that Mark wrote the guitar riffs for WMAA, Adams Song, and Man Overboard which is pretty crazy cause they Sound like Toms
    style

"Don't Leave Me" might be their best song that doesn't have an identifying guitar riff. Same goes for "Josie". The bass solo in "Don't Leave Me" rules too.

I mean I don't expect Mark to be writing endless great guitar riffs, I'm just impressed he wrote the ones he did in the first place

I thought he wrote all the +44 guitar parts? I loved those.

He did. He also confirmed yesterday what we all thought in that he wrote the guitar parts for all of his songs on Neighborhoods.

Mark does not get enough credit for how talented of a guitarist he is

I think it’s because everyone assumes because he plays bass in the band he just does the bass parts and Tom would come up with the guitar riffs. Same thing for the lyrics and we all assume because Mark/Tom/Matt sings a verse/chorus/song he must have wrote it.

Honest to God this was so apparent after listening. Like “Kaleidoscope”? So effing obvious.

We all smart. We all have been blinking for years. I feel like we can hear the distinct difference between Mark/Tom songs on Neighbs.

If it goes “deedledeedledeeedeeee” it’s a Tom riff

Or if it sounds anything like AvA, which is now a clear guideline.. I mean, I enjoy AvA a lot but he luuuuvs his delays and space w0o0o0o sounds... But so do I... Haha.

The dammit riff was the most “Mark wrote this?” because it sounds so much like Tom and I heard that Mark only wrote the melodies.

Rock Show also sounds like Tom. And yeah, Mark is underrated in that old stuff because I always assume Tom wrote the riffs. +44 is a good example of really nice guitar parts too.

I'm always a little impressed how cohesive everything sounded back in the day even though it was pretty split as far as songwriting goes. For the longest time I just assumed they wrote every song together, but then you hear that a lot of times that's not the case.

With Neighborhoods, I always assumed Mark wrote AND recorded his own stuff for his songs which really contributes to the last of cohesion. At least whenever they wrote their songs separately in the past, Tom recorded them with consistent guitar tones. By this point, we had already been exposed to AvA and +44 so their respective styles and tones were pretty obvious to spot.
