Neighborhoods might have been like a good demo of song ideas to bring to a producer to suggest changes and make it sound better (not Feldmann haha). I still can't get over how weak and thin the guitars are. I know you can say they didn't give a shit and weren't getting along or whatever but it's so weird how they could have been like "Yeah this sounds great!" and put it out. Mark is LITERALLY a professional producer!

Cynical, bored to death, San Diego > natives, after midnight, kaleidoscope... both albums have great songs but overall I'd take Cali

So can I, such as fighting the gravity, this is home, Wildfire. I just don't view either album as total misfires

  4. And to me it's weird that you don't love "Wildfire" haha. It's one of my favorites from CA DLX. Haha.

I love the riffs and the back and forth part of Matt and mark in the second verse. The rest of it needs improvement

I couldn't tell you what Wildfire even sounds like honestly

I can't even make a list of tracks combining Neighborhoods and California. I love some songs on Neighborhoods but a playlist switching between the two albums would feel just weird to me

I must have missed if you've previously mentioned this, but what's your band called? I'd love to check them out! Knew you did solo stuff and Cootie Catcher, but don't think I knew of a different band haha.

I could be remembering wrong but didn't Jerry produce +44's album? He may have been team Mark

Jerry did produce the +44 album but he previously produced Tom's BCR album too. I'm thinking that Tom just wanted to transition into more of a rock sound ala U2 and get rid of the punk rock vibe and probably didn't think Jerry would be the producer to do that and also Tom probably didn't want to listen to anyone else but himself.

BCR was before the break up though. There were no side to take. He clearly chose Mark/Travis.

Right, but I mentioned BCR to point out that Tom had worked with Jerry outside of blink once before.

I'm not really sure you can say because Mark/Travis worked with Jerry post break up and Tom didn't that Jerry took sides. Most likely it was Tom trying to be Bono and didn't want someone else to produce his music. I think the fact that AVA didn't use a producer at all on any of their albums is probably a better indication of that.

nah. He chose the right side.

Yup I have always thought of Neighborhoods are a good polished demo album instead of a 'real' album. They absolutely needed an outside influence to help. As far as Mark being a professional producer, I would think it's easier to produce and give suggestions to someone else's work instead of your own. It's a lot easier to fall in love with your own ideas and think something you did is great.
