For whatever reason I just don't see them playing Black Rain or Emo live. Ditto for Ransom and Remember To Forget Me. I hope I'm wrong but I don't know.

Lifetime Blink and Trio fan here and I do not get the appeal of this album at all. These songs feel so forced, awkward, and uninspired. I’m quite surprised on all the praise the site has given this. How do y’all like this and not Neighborhoods?

 

I can't speak for anyone else, but the reason I prefer NINE to NEIGHBORHOODS is that I have heard both.

 

And most people here like Neighborhoods to some degree too.

 

I was going to comment on the phrase "uninspired," but then I realized I've done that rant multiple times before.

 

Okay, this album has hit for me. Can't stop playing it. Helps that it's the exact length of my commute to and from work, so I can get 1 full listen in on those two combined.

Also, this could be a +44 record. So many similar vibes on here. Remember To Forget Me is just straight up a +44 song and I love it.

 

So happy I got my order finally. It’s missing the enamel pins/stickers that were supposed to come with it but at least the main parts were there

 

Would be funnier if all you got were the pins, stickers, water bottle, etc but not the album.

 

I mean I enjoy neighborhoods quite a bit, but I disagree with your assessment of Nine.

 

I can't think of a more forced, awkward, and uninspired Blink album than Neighborhoods... haha

 

Re: pulling these songs off live. I've also had the concern that these will be hard as hell to sing live if they play too many of them every night. Mark in particular is singing right at the top of his range in a lot of them (he seems to struggle right when he gets to a high G# or something around there). That's rough.

 

It's a dumb little production thing but I love how at the end of the bridge for "run away" before the last chorus kicks in the music kind of fades abruptly like someone turned the knob quickly down and it makes this weird distorted noise and the last chorus comes in. Does anyone know what I'm talking about or know the more technically proficient way to describe this?

 

my friend who’s been a lifelong blink fan literally told me today that neighborhoods is his favorite blink album.

 

i believe thats called a tape stop! i think its essentially the same effect used for the start of Black Rain just before it kicks into the first verse (just slower)

I have a friend who ranks Neighborhoods over Dude Ranch and Enema and not just because it hurts me, personally, to hear him say it

Like @Shaun said, it's called a "tape stop" effect. It's basically just pitching down everything in the mix all at once to make it sound like it's all abruptly slowing down.

I think the only thing that isn't being pitched down is that swell that's happening in the background so the chorus still has that nice lead-in when it drops.

 

I know they have an EP planned but I have a feeling the EP might just turn into the Nine Deluxe, I imagine they have a lot of songs left over.

Well there was mentions of collaborations. I still want to here just a Blink only version “Why Are We So Broken?”. There was an extended version of Generational Divide they said didn’t work. A Japanese B side. Probably a few extra songs.

I actually thought they were doing a live EP with, but I misunderstood that live stream thing they did on September 19.

 

I'd give it a few more hours. It's currently 4:30 AM there, so stores have likely not opened up to start selling it yet.

 

why isn't there a way for us to buy an MP3 of it right now from some Japanese website? grr!
