I really love this album, I didn't notice mixing/production issues but I also am sometimes oblivious to that stuff

  3. This is certainly my favorite album of the year so far. Most of this is just Jack doing what he does best with a healthy dose of Springsteen worship thrown in for good measure. Turns out he really gets what makes Springsteen work, so the whole thing is successful. Bruce himself hasn’t sounded as good as he sounds on Chinatown in years, and HDYWM was obviously written by a Bruce fan who has spent a lot of time thinking about what makes The Wild, The Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle tick. Each of the more scaled back songs toward the end all add something, so it keeps my undivided attention through the end.

Production is very good actually? Sorry to people who don’t vibe with it but he’s obviously committing to a sound here and pulling it off. I do agree that the mastering job is a little all over the place though—it’s most notable to me when the album starts over and the first track is very loud.

Possibly my favorite Bleachers album, and once again I find myself pitying everyone guilty of the crime of not being from New Jersey

  4. The production isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I really like this album! I really just think that Jack is too quiet/hard to hear on some songs.

My fiancé is from NJ and we live in Philly. I get this so hard. I love the NJ motifs on this album.

The wildest thing about the production choices is they have to be intentional. Absolutely no way the definitive pop producer of the decade releases a solo album where the mixing is “rushed” or whatever

completely depends on the deadline with the label, the schedule of the person mixing and mastering it, and the budget/how much money was spent on the mix and master. and sometimes the mixing or mastering engineer takes it in a direction the artist and producer don't like but dont have the budget to go back or have someone else mix it. or if the person making the album is mixing and mastering it themselves they get obsessive about it and overcook it and wind up further away from their original vision. and they never get a second set of ears on it and miss details others would pick up on. major albums end up with shitty mix and/or mastering jobs all the time and its not always completely intentional. mixing and mastering is an art just like songwriting is an art. you can have intentions to do something and wind up somewhere completely different.

  12. I mean if “blue jeans” is your jersey touchpoint, that kind of explains it, right?

Jesus, how much did he listen to Tusk while he was working on this. Dude’s easily one of the best producers to ever live. The attention to the sonic details never lets up.

People complaining about the production are going to sheepishly come around in a few years and that’s fine.

I'm not complaining about the sound, but I definitely hope I like it more in a few years than I do right now.

It’s a piece devoid of a point. I couldn’t tell what she wanted from Jack.

I didn't know this album was coming out but was really excited when I saw it on the albums out list. After listening I'm pretty disappointed, nothing really clicks with me. I enjoyed their other two albums a lot more.

In New Jersey, you record in a Wawa parking lot or you don’t record at all

chinatown mix has been fixed. legit they must have uploaded the wrong file. i deleted the track from my apple music library and then re-added it and now the volume is perfect.

yeah, i added the album super early in the morning yesterday and that song was ridiculously quieter than other tracks. i played it again this morning, same thing. so i deleted it and re-added just now and it was fixed.

  25. From what I can tell, "91" wasn't in Atmos yesterday, but "Chinatown" was - so when listening with supported devices, that'll drop the volume. Now, the only one not in Atmos is "Secret Life."
