Fair, but these lyrics are so characteristically Jack that I can't imagine it like that at all.

 

I can't decide if Everybody Lost Somebody or Foreign Girls is my favorite thing on here, although I know those are my top 2.

 

"Everybody Lost Somebody" is my SOTY at the moment. Had no idea how much I'd like it the first time I heard it

I'm Ready to Move On might be my favorite song on here, it comes in at the perfect time

 

This album is flooring me at the moment. So so good, love the reprises and callbacks and so melodically tight. No skips on here at all.

Haven't see a lot of talk about the '80s Springsteen vibes on this but that's absolutely contributing to my enjoyment of it.

 

Let's get married reminds me of 80s Springsteen. No idea what yr all on about, this song kicks so much ass

I don't think this is particularly weird or unexpected; it feels like a fairly natural progression from strange desire. I was expecting a lot different after some of the responses in here. This is probably more immediate for me on first listen than that was actually

 

This album is fantastic. I'm really digging it

 

Only caught the last couple songs of his acoustic set, but got to meet Jack at Rough Trade today. The bedroom was awesome too. What a great guy.

I already knew I loved this record, but it didn't really hit me until I heard the whole thing front to back at the record store today while waiting in line. Obviously I had already listened to it in order, but something about being in a room full of Bleachers fans and hearing it without the ability to change the song made me really realize every single track has its place on this record. Definite AOTY contender, and probably holds that title for me right now.

Really great progression from Strange Desire. Still has the signature Bleachers anthemic moments, but the obvious hip-hop/R&B influence is the differing factor. Love it.

 

Finally got to listen to this album fully today. Wow. I really loved the first album - but this is next level for Jack. Not one single song I'd skip. This will be getting lots of late summer night listens from me.

 

Also has anyone else gotten a Bon Iver vibe from this album at times?

 

Don't know that I see that comparison, although I noticed today that Goodmorning in particular kind of dissects some elements that you'd expect to be there the same way that 22, a Million did

 

That's exactly it. It's just elements from that album that I hear. I dig it a lot.

 

Yeah, I figured Antonoff is a fan of 22, A Million as well as Coloring Book.

 

I'm really starting to love All My Heroes and Goodmorning. Those are definite standouts.

I already know I really enjoy this album, but it will be interesting watching my relationship with it grow over the coming weeks and months. I can just tell it will be one of "those" albums - the kind that forms a bond over time.

 

Biggest thing I've noticed on this:

His covers were no accident. The Kanye vocal influence ("Only One") is all over this. The Lindsey Buckingham weirdly produced guitars and three-part Fleetwood Mac harmonies ("Go Your Own Way") have increased tenfold. As for "Don't Come Around Here No More", the lead single opens with the same semi-sitar sound.

I just love to hear someone voraciously absorbing music from everywhere.

 

I think the opener is a bit too restrained? I was waiting for it to blow up

This got me listening to some Steel Train and I honestly forgot how good those albums were as well.

Jack is just a great musician

Wow I did not like this at all on first listen. "Foriegn Girls" and "Goodbye" were really cool songs though.

 

Yeah, I'm listening to the self-titled Steel Train album for the first time in probably close to five years and forgot how damn good this record is

 

I absolutely cannot stop listening to this album. I took a bus to Philly on Saturday and felt like listening to it on the NJ Turnpike (seemed appropriate) and ended up listening to it the entire ride down (and back). I'm finding myself so excited to re-listen to it that I sometimes skip the last couple tracks to get back to the beginning. "Don't Take the Money" and "Everybody Lost Somebody" are my initial faves but I def need to pay more attention to those last two that are getting less listens due to my eagerness to get back to "Dream of Mickey Mantle" and beyond.

When I got back to NYC late that night, I saw that Jack tweeted he was doing a signing at Rough Trade in Brooklyn, so headed there yesterday. What a treat! Got to explore Jack's room, which is amazing. My favorite part of it was the self-titled Steel Train album lying on the floor in the exact spot that the album cover takes place. Then Jack actually played a set too! It was just Jack and his acoustic guitar and Evan (I think!) with a keyboard and sax. Set include "Rollercoaster," "I Wanna Get Better," a cool arrangement of "Let's Get Married," "I Miss Those Days" and "Don't Take the Money." It was a super chill event, really not even crowded, and afterward, he took the time to chat with everyone as he signed albums.

As a fan of Jack's since the Steel Train days, I eagerly anticipate his new projects but this one has just blown me away. And being able to experience and enjoy the album immediately and cap it off with a day like yesterday's was just awesome!
