Flower of blood is already one of the best shoegaze songs of late and beats out a lot of contemporary bands who specialize in that sound (for me, anyway) so if we got a record that leaned into that and some Contact breakdown sounds I'd be very pleased.

contact is a ripper live, also their most nirvana song.

little things is the best dmb song since 2000

 

this band could write a stars by hum for sure

 

Yea I’d love a big pivot to something really muscular like that. Would really suit them, a good zag to some of the quirky country folk they were doing on Dragon.

 

I’ve never wanted anything more now than a Hum inspired BT album lol

 

Here is their 2017 Connie Converse cover for anyone that hasn’t heard it. It was previously only available if you bought the entire tribute album so it’s probably one of Big Thief’s least heard recordings. It was finally uploaded to streaming places a few days ago

Buck was on this Tim Heidecker podcast today. Played "Lagrimas" about an hour in and they talk about Big Thief a bit in the second half

No comments about the future, just a few fun stories
- They were approached to do a Harley Davidson ad
- Adrianne's grandmother heard Masterpiece used on Fox News without permission so they went after Fox about it

 

Looks like they'll be playing at Canela Party (Spain) which is August 21-24 next year, just over a year after their last show which was August 9th. Good to know they're definitely getting back out there after a year off

 

Another show announced, 18 August 2024 opening for PJ Harvey outdoor in London at Gunnersbury Park which I think has like a 25k capacity. Seems safe to say their return to touring will be with a European tour in August

For some reason Masterpiece has been remastered and rereleased by 4AD on eco vinyl

Not sure why they didn’t just wait ~2 years and release a 10 year anniversary edition

 

I mean I get the desire to press stuff on eco vinyl but boy does it sound like dogshit.

 

Japanese version of the Masterpiece re-release includes a bonus track demo of Mother (titled 'Under Her Arm'). I believe this recording is actually part of the demo sessions for Capacity unless there are multiple versions.

They were in Taos around Thanksgiving 2020 while traveling from Dragon session #3 to #4. Not exactly sure what they mean by 'produced' but that's probably the time period they're referring to.

It's cool that there are people tied to the band in that fb group. One time someone shared Andrew Bird covering Certainty and the only two comments were from Max and Buck's moms haha

 

Pretty cool video of Shawn Everett talking about recording and mixing Blurred View and playing some of the stems from the contact mics. He said the vocals were recorded by taping headphones to Adrianne's neck/throat
