A few months ago James mentioned he's working on a metal children's album as a solo project. Not sure if it's morphing into a band thing or if Buck just used it as a fun answer to the question

James shared this Flower of Blood clip yesterday. Looks like he's watching a full recording of Red Rocks, hopefully they release that at some point

 

I’m pretty convinced that “Born for Loving You” is going to be a crossover hit. So excited for the studio version to drop. I’m honestly curious if country music stations are going to pick it up (I mean it’s Big Thief, they could give it the “Time Escaping” treatment lol so who knows), but what a weird thing that would be.

 

Can't decide how I would feel about that haha but I guess any success is good. I think the studio version will be fairly faithful to the live version since there weren't any significant live changes after the studio session

I actually do prefer the slightly more propulsive live version here, the guitar lick is really great in that setting. BUT somehow this studio version is still pretty much perfect (I think it’s missing some Buck backup vocals in the chorus, and the “Congratulations, No Regrets!” is something I’d also like to highlight more with some layered vocals)

 

Yeah I'm a little surprised there aren't more backup vocals. It felt a little flat on first listen but quickly grew on me, it's a great recording. I was also surprised by the fade out, off the top of my head I don't think they do that often

Adrianne posted the handwritten lyrics. Looks like she wrote it on a day off in Florida and performed it 3 shows later

 

also someone from the band's management team shared the song early on discord yesterday afternoon and said they "will be sharing more stuff moving forward as well"

both songs are a touch more sedate than I would've preferred based on how I first heard em, but both are still fantastic too. they don't release anything that isn't

ready for them to drop Sadness as a Gift anytime that's convenient for them

Not sure when 6 months will start but right now they're currently all free from touring in November and then February onward. If they're trying to be together in person, I think they somewhat have their own studio setup now so they could potentially be recording during that time too. Brewing a ton of new stuff in a home studio for 6 months sounds pretty nice to me.

It's been mentioned before but the heavy children's record is something James has mentioned as a solo project. Not sure how/if that will overlap with the band

Still crossing my fingers for the remaining Dragon sessions but also feel really grateful that we got a crazy fast turnaround on VE/B4LY to hold us over

 

I was kind of waiting for this kind of confirmation before I sprung for the VE/B4LY single. I had the vibe they were gonna be stand alone singles but wasn’t sure.

and the 6 month full band retreat sounds like it has the potential to be incredibly fruitful. I hope they take some well deserved in between touring their respective solo stuff though. Gotta be wiped.

 

Out of all the directions they've hinted at, a heavy screamo record is up there in my rankings of which record I want them to release.

 

I think sludgy 90’s is where we are headed, maybe a little shoegaze. Love something like Hum or Jesus Lizard.

bucks guitars aren’t a far cry from those on GOAT.
