This is my initial reaction to basically every recording of the song that I've heard. When it starts I think eh it's not the best version, but then by the end of the first chorus I fucking love it and don't care.

Absolutely love this song and this is a great studio version. Sounds live kinda like Two Hands but brighter. The "for the last time in a row" omission feels awkward still but I'm sure it'll fade. Can't wait to get another decent version of this from Pitchfork this weekend

So who's gonna be that person and record the Pitchfork set?

Would have been foolish to not give it that tag. "The marvelous new single has been a staple of the band’s live sets for a couple of years." They prob could have googled this first though, the song was debuted only 8 months ago. Very relieved we did not have to wait years

I'm going to try to screen record Pitchfork but I'm hoping someone else will be able to capture the source video instead. Much smaller file, better video, etc

Addressing the complainers who will probably refer to the studio recording as the "spotify version"

This is what happened, the song blew up on TikTok where people who had never heard of the band before or had never listened previously fell in love with Vampire Empire, specifically the live/Colbert version, and then when the studio recording came out those people got pissed and started bashing the band. Here’s one example with over 61,000 likes:

Here is another which is way more harsh: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8RQbwR5/

Smh. The recorded version so great. They make such fantastic use of empty space, that’s always been a strength of theirs.

For real I’m convinced those people can’t possibly be fans of the band if they aren’t capable of appreciating what this band is able to pull off with their studio work

That space they create only amplifies those guitars as they come crashing in. It’s exhilarating.

I mean yeah, I don't think we're really talking about fans of the band at all, just people that liked a clip they heard on tiktok and were sad it wasn't also available on spotify. Hopefully this at least discourages that crowd from going to shows

Also I've seen so many comments referring to the tv performance as a demo haha

If you check @beautiphilboy stories, he posted two clips of them recording overdubs on the chorus. Buck doing the guitar melody and James hitting a trash can lid

I wonder how many of these TikTok “fans” realize that the band has put out three fantastic albums in the past few years, two fantastic solo albums from Adrianne, and a great solo Buck album like okay… you don’t like one song they put out, sure you can express your opinion but like, this band has given us so much great music over the past few years and not everything is going to hit the way you want it to, but you have the version you like to listen to whenever and also a whole bunch of other great songs to listen to from them

People complaining about the recorded version are of course ridiculous, but I wouldn't necessarily disagree with the sentiment that they're better "live," in front of an audience, than in studio. I would love them to release some concert albums, would be all about it.

This post was in reference to Simulation Swarm, but it now applies to Vampire Empire.

  20. We will know the Grateful Dead have been fully integrated into pitchfork indie culture when bands like Big Thief put out all of their shows in real time

Someone said they taped a show from the other day on Reddit. I wish taping culture was more prominent with this band.

Same. There are a few BT tapers in Europe but overall not many. Luckily there’s at least that one person who seems to attend most US shows and records any new songs. So many would probably be unheard without them

Is the pitchfork stream working for anyone? I’m just getting overrated underrated videos.
