But to play the game, Dominos, not because it's not awesome, because it is, simply because it's a cover.

 

Yup, I don’t want it to disappear, but, I would trade little trouble for dominos if there was some very specific scenario in which I had to take one song off the album. A specific, extremely hypothetical situation which is not grounded in reality whatsoever.

 

"Dominos" isn't really a cover, though, it's a song Taylor wrote for Conor and Phoebe to sing, right? like there isn't an original recording of the song for them to cover, as far as I understand it?

also that's a top 3 song on here in either case and y'all buggin

 

piping hot take: I'd trade "Dylan Thomas" for "Little Trouble", not out of any lack of love for "Dylan Thomas" but because it feels more like a single, and I imagine "Little Trouble" was left off because the vocal melodies are similar

 

Cover or not, the fact that there are 9 songs on the album that are better than Dominos means it should get booted in this “never gonna happen” scenario.

I don't understand the bias against covers, I wish more artists would put them on albums.

And would anyone really boot "You Missed My Heart" off Strangers in the Alps just because it's a cover?? That would be absurd.

 

I agree. I really like that Spoon have a tradition of sneaking a cover into most of their LPs. More people should do it.

 

The opening track on this record is probably still my favorite.

 

I really have no bias against covers on albums. I’m just of the opinion that as a song, cover or not, Dominos the least interesting song on the album.

Knowing that it is a cover, coupled with the fact that its also my least favorite song on here, means I wouldn’t mind if it got booted in the extremely hypothetical situation that was proposed.

 

For the record, I appreciate how much you stress the fact that the situation is only hypocritical, haha.

But yeah I was just speaking specifically to the argument that covers don't merit places on albums or are somehow less worthy than originals.
