Mac Demarco is a talented entertainer, but his music is mad overrated.

 

I have a few students who ask to learn songs of his every now and then. Come up about 4 times so far. They aren't great but they aren't terrible either. Never heard of him outside my students though

 

Like I feel the same with some of the other artists pitchfork/other media pushes. The work they got currently is alright, but they have way more potential to do better.

 

I haven't listened to Goodness since the week it came out, doesn't resonate with me at all.

Mac Demarco sucks

 

Goodness is such a slow burner, whereas Home gripped me from the get go

 

i still hold that Housebroken is the best song on Home...

He's okay I guess.

 

eh i wouldn't really call him that

 

i would say more steeley dan-soundalike guy or harry nilsson-soundalike guy

 

That's just the immediate comparison to come to mind, not wholly accurate but that was my first though listening to his last record.

I mean.... Yeah, but imo Brand New > Daisy. And that tends to be controversial around these parts. They have the ability to create a very focused start to finish record and Daisy came across slipshod compared to Deja and TDAG Inn that respect. Jarring for the sake of jarring.

Still hoping they really kill it for their last record.

 

These days if I listen to Brand New, I'm listening to Daisy and the demos. TDAG is still my favorite, but to me that's the definition of an album that needs to be listened to from beginning to end, and I rarely feel the need to do that lately.

 

I can't recall what Demarco sounds like. his fanbase (that I've met) never made me eager to check him out, which is unfair I guess cuz Brand New has a shitty fan base as well and I love them.
