Jason’s backing vocals on that one on S&M are the peak of their talent.

Hating Taylor Swift stopped being a bold take nearly a decade ago

Swift’s music is too bland for me to hate it. But what is annoying is people gushing over it

God, Swift hate is just so boring.

Hating popular things is just exhausting.

I can't be bothered to think about Shawn Mendes enough to care.

most of my dislike of ts (and basically all popular artists that I dislike) comes from how popular and unavoidable she is
like I wouldn’t have any opinion on her if I wasn’t forced to hear her music in all public places

Well, people are gushing over it because it’s good. Her last two albums are some of her best work. I wouldn’t call her music bland either honestly, she’s explored three different major genres (country, pop, and now indie) and a lot of it isn’t bland at all, she makes it unique and interesting to listen to.

Also to add: I don’t think an artist being popular and “everywhere” is a fair criticism. For example, BTS is immensely popular and also “everywhere”, and while I’m not much of a fan (although I really like their song Dynamite), I don’t use their popularity as a metric for my dislike. It’s not something the artist can control. Just because an artist is huge and all over the place doesn’t mean they can’t make good music.

  18. I think it’s fair to have a heightened distaste for something that’s constantly being put in front of you when you didn’t really even care for in the first place

yeah I know retail workers hate Christmas music and I get that it must be bizarre to hear the same songs 8 times a day and how that can drive you insane, assuming that's not how you listen to music because your brain actually has serotonin

That’s more of an issue with top 40/pop radio I feel. They are always overplaying songs to death. It’s not the artists fault the radio is constantly playing their music.

It's just really incredibly easy to avoid listening to Top 40 radio, though. and like unbornwhiskey said, "What even are public places" anymore.

Ive tried listening to everything she’s been releasing since about Red or 1989* or so, and I still haven’t heard whatever is supposedly unique or particularly interesting about it. I like pop music, but compared to other current giant acts — Harry Styles, Beyoncé, Lorde, Charli xcx, Jepsen, Billie Eilish, etc. all come to mind — her music largely just feels like a pretty watered down version of stuff that already exists in droves

This is complicated for me because I genuinely cannot remember the last time I turned on a radio station haha. So I can’t really speak to how much Taylor is or isn’t played on the radio. BUT fwiw I don’t think anyone was necessarily saying it’s an artist’s *fault* that their music is played on the radio constantly
