On a semi-related note my queen finally put this video on YouTube I've been waiting for this moment for so long

I guess to make it more related, Shakira has one of the most eclectic and consistently solid discographies of the pop girls and gets paid absolute dust for it in the US. Glad she showed them at the super bowl

    so much for them! Prestigious

growing up in miami and having spent the mid aughts in chile i cant imagine people not knowing who daddy yankee is. hell even beyond gasolina (which is great) and despacito (which is terrible, sorry, not sorry) he has so many hits. easily the most durable of that first wave of reggeaton artists that broke through.

Definitely, though Nicky Jam really clawed his way back too and has been releasing gem after gem.

I think this is the perfect example of the systemic racism in the music biz. White acts being pushed over black artists is still prevalent, but you look at that thread and you realise how much so. I think it’s a generational thing too because it’s so easy to find black music/art as compared to back then.

Maybe, but on the other hand I’ve seen data on how the charts were whiter in the 2010s than the 00s, so in some ways it has gotten worse

I've been fascinated by the divide in music pre-hip-hop for awhile now. I'm frequently looking up major hits on the R&B charts to seek them out because they just didn't cross over.

The Gap Band, The Isley Brothers, Jeffrey Osborne, etc. Monsters in the 80s on R&B charts. Pretty much jack shit on the pop charts. It's absurd.

Also people better put some respect on Levert's name.

It’s definitely better than it was then but like I have said I have seen numbers that show that the charts have been whiter in the 2010s than in the 00s so pop music has definitely become more segregated again, especially if you exclude rap

For some reason I'm absolutely fine with no caps but get irritated with all caps.

I guess there's only one thing for it: I need to get a life.

I don't really care about either on a specific song but if the whole album is either one I'll just change it.
