I always forget about Evanescence for long periods of time, only to go back & see that, yep, that's still good music.

Only full album I ever got into was Fallen, which was my jam when I was 15. But, "Call Me When You're Sober" absolutely rules. And, I also think "What You Want" is really great.

The rare times I decided to talk about them, I also love remembering that they had ties to the Christian metal band Living Sacrifice & its Christian metal side project, Soul Embraced, w/ Rocky Gray being in all 3 bands. And, that they covered this Soul Embraced song:

Though, I don't think liking Evanescence is THAT unpopular around here? Or, my other jam at the time, Linkin Park. My only related genuinely unpopular opinion is probably that I can still dig a lot of P.O.D.'s stuff in the right mood... which brings these two conversations together quite nicely 'cause, I was so surprised years ago when I realized Katy Perry is in this song:

    Living Sacrifice fucking rules.

“Conditional” is such a dope song, especially live.

    Mental isn't it?

I don't really listen to P.O.D anymore but they were a pretty big band for me in getting into music.

I only like maybe three Evanescence songs and I don’t like Amy Lee’s solo stuff but I do think she’s an amazing singer

Seems like its not even an unpopular opinion to not like TS nowadays, i feel like for the majority of her mainstream successful career, she’s been a pretty polarizing figure. I don’t know many people who think she’s ‘just ok’, it’s usually love (to an extreme and cannot see any possible faults and youre wrong if you dont like her!!!!!!) or its hate (also to a similar extreme).

TS lovers and haters are not meant to coexist.

I have never recovered from the time was was 13 going on 14 and made an account on absolutepunk.net, bumped an evanescence thread, and was like “hello I am a child excited to talk about music with fellow music fan!” and was immediately roasted all the way to hell.

I’ve never really liked Taylor Swift’s music, one because the initial country vibe she had going isn’t my thing personally... and two, I just find her super “vanilla” like she’s become this big, bombastic “Disney princess” of pop and that’s just not exciting to me at all. Works for a lot of people, sure, just not for me.

Her voice isn’t particularly unique and doesn’t really stand out... the songs don’t grab me... and when she seemingly tries to put on this sassy/strong, “bad girl attitude” as of late, but doesn’t sell me on it whatsoever... idk, not my thing... Vanilla.

I sold almost all the nu-metal-y stuff I used to like back to record stores, but Fallen is one of the very few still on my CD shelf.

Lots of people in this thread seem to not know Taylor's album cuts, which makes sense if you're not a fan, but I don't know how fans of music wouldn't like songs like False God or Death By A Thousand Cuts.

It’s genuinely hard, almost impossible, to go back to the 00’s emo craze of music and not almost get ill at most of the lyrics. Of course they “spoke to us” in high school / middle school, but my god I never really noticed how “poor me!” The lyrics to almost every song / album were until I started going back and revisiting them.

like, with the Armor for Sleep reunion news I went back and listened to WTTDWYAD or whatever the title is and it’s so fucking cringey how bad and “whoa is me!” The lyrics are. And almost every band did that! so shoutout to those that didn’t which means I can still listen to those albums (to some degree) because 32 year old me can’t jam about whiny men complaining about how a girl doesn’t like them or whatever the fuck lol

Armor For Sleep were really good but yeah it wasn't the lyrics.

I’m very glad I am not a lyrically-oriented listener bc a not-insignificant portion of my favorite music would be impossible for me to listen to lmao.
