Chumped was a neat pop punk band

 

I like some thrash but I dont get why the quality death metal of that time period didnt get as broadly popular. I think its not a whole lot of a harder pill to swallow than say a band like Slayer, and its better.

 

Of to the off my head I would say calling your genre death metal doesn't help

 

death metal is better than pop punk

Death metal didn't really take off until the late 80s and really exploded in the early 90s, which effectively killed thrash.

 

Jam bands push the limit for how good you can be while also being bad.

I don't know man. The Dead are good. Phish are good. This local band called Max Creek that imo could've been as popular as Phish if their timing was a little better are really good. The Jam-adjacent "progressive bluegrass" scene is all good shit. There's a cool band around here called Creamery Station that does kind of country rock bluegrass jam. Idunno. Why are they bad? Does it help if I say that jam bands in general, especially the Dead and Phish, are really incredible musicians, "jazz-level players" as I once saw David Crosby put it lol? Or that they're usually extremely erudite and eclectic in their music knowledge and represent the most perfect fusion of all kinds of American music? Or that they revolutionized certain aspects of the music industry in ways that are still widely felt? The Dead invented modern live sound design and you have Phish to thank fo the modern music festival. I don't really know how to argue "they're bad" lol

 

Oh I wasnt actually arguing anything. Dead is obviously legendary and Phish is great. I played in bluegrass bands/festivals when i was younger so i definitely respect the live aspect of the genre. I was just talking shit haha.

I personally think I’m right and literally everyone else is wrong but what are the odds

I like Queen a lot but I've been holding this take inside for a long time without ever saying it and reading it posted somewhere is so relieving
