I was trying to describe myself to someone

I think the massive indie and retro revival in the early/mid 2000s murdered the heavier end of the spectrum. I don't remember finding a new British punk/hardcore act until Gallows emerged, which was like 2007/8?

  2. Yeah I'm not sure I even listened to this one. He sounded decent on the Casually live DVD. He was one of my favorite singers at one point...

  3. I was trying to come up with another band of that kind but you're right, Gallows definitely had an influence on that punk/hardcore scene. Weren't Your Demise british? I disliked that band but I remember them getting traction on myspace, though it was around 2007/2008 so after Gallows' debut.

  4. That said, the best UK post-hardcore bands were Million Dead and Reuben, along with early Biffy Clyro.

    Probably not an unpopular opinion?

    hmmm

I never really listened to Million Dead for some reason.

As you can probably tell from my avatar, I'm pretty fond of Reuben.

  6. Haha yeah it makes me happy to see it!

I just remembered Yourcodenameis:milo from the same era. I think their lead singer joined The Automatic, which were part of the revival indie/punk thing going on, but I haven't heard of them in a long time.

    hmmm

The Automatic! Wow, that feels like a blast from the past. I only remember Monster.

FFAF's best song is their cover of Rookie by Boysetsfire.

    3 Unpopular opinions incoming:

    1. 'Kill Your Own' is better than 'Ideas Above Our Stations'

    2. 'Hours' is infinitely better than 'Casually Dressed and Deep in Conversation'

    3. While there are sections of every song I adore on 'Pale Horses' there are also sections on almost every song that don't really interest me at all.

    Fin.

Saying it's top 5 out of seven albums is damning with faint praise to say the least...

of those early 00's UK bands I adored My Vitriol and am convinced Title Fight listened to Finelines religiously before they recorded Floral Green

Also probably listened to a lot of Hum and Failure.

  17. My Vitriol's career is such a wild ride, to keep it short.

Yeah I realize now that's a little silly.

Thinking about it, I'd probably put it 3rd after Casually Dressed and Armageddon. I still need to give Hours another shot because everyone seems to like it more than I did on the one listen I ever gave it.

I've grown to like Hours, but as a follow up to Casually Dressed it was quite a disappointment for me when I first got it on release day.

  23. I remember Hours not getting a really good reception. Quite a few magazines called it a sophomore slump at the time, which just blows my mind more than a decade later, but I guess the mid 00's were an interesting time for the genre.

So the new Ting Tings song is terrible.

Here's a good one: Citizen's last two records are the two worst releases in that sea of "post pop-punk" records.

I loathe absolutely everything about these two albums, but everyone else seems to be really into that new direction.
