I really dislike Ariana Grande. Her music is pretty unmemorable to me. Like I def bopped along to Break Free when it came out, but it came on the radio recently and I could not for the life of me remember how it went. She doesn't have the presence to sell her catchy songs to me. And I'm sure nobody here cares about it, but she has like the worst image/styling of any popstar out rn, except maybe Meghan Trainor. I wanna like her cause I used to enjoy her old youtube covers, but she doesn't click.

 

I don't like her whole "Lolita" look with the cat ears and the ponytail, it skeeves me out so much

 

It's so bad. Her looks reads very low budget trying to look high budget? idk. And I'm not a fan of how I think she plays up looking racially ambiguous sometimes.

She's kind of like Selena Gomez for me in that she has jams, but is so boring she doesn't sell them for me. I'm so bad at articulating it lol. I don't think every pop singer needs to be like this huge superstar of charisma, but if they have a fun catchy bop I like when they can really sell it and sound like they're having fun too. I have the same problem with Zayn and Bieber too. Like how do they sound so bored???

 

Do you think that's just because all of them are all relatively young/inexperienced? I feel like all the most charismatic pop stars now have had time to refine that and had their moments where they were just kinda ok when they first started.

 

idk I think they've been out long enough that I feel like it should be less of an issue. Like 3 or 4 releases in and doing this since they were kids, I think is enough time to get a grasp. Zayn is the only solo newbie but he's always been kinda boring with 1D too, he just was able to blend more in a group setting.

I do think in the past artists had more time to work on it especially with how fast the release schedule is now, but I also think a lot of artists now don't really bother to improve that skill. And I kinda don't blame them. Aside from me being an old man who yells at cloud, the lack of x factor doesn't seem to impact their ticket sales or positions on the charts since they're all still doing amazingly well. I think Ariana and Selena have def been making lil strides there, even if I still find them zzzz most of the time.

 

Her vocal range impresses the shit out of me, hell of a singer. However, I do think she looks like she's 12 at all times and that does make me uncomfortable when I see pictures of her being "sexy" or whatnot.

 

I've come to the conclusion I probably like Audioslave better than Rage Against the Machine or Soundgarden. Although I still like those bands too.

 

Ariana's new album is great and she is an amazing vocalist

 

I'll be blasting the shit out of that AG record all summer, that much is sure.

 

I def don't think Ariana is untalented. I just wish she commanded the songs and stage better. Like she has almost all the ingredients I just need her to sell me the songs. idk if it's a confidence issue or what but I can't jam unless I feel like the artist is jamming too!

Semi-related, but I feel like Bruno Mars has the opposite problem lol. His songs have charisma and he is a lot of fun, but I'm still waiting on him to put out a great album.

 

I only remember him from Just The Way You Are, nothing else sticks out for me.

I like some songs from each album and Uptown Funk was fun before it was overplayed. He has nice voice and he's a great performer to watch. He's just super corny lol. I think he has potential to put out a really good release tho

 

In my mind, Bruno Mars' live performance energy is the equivalent to Russel Westbrook's on the court energy.

I think you'd have a lot of fun going through the fashion tastes of professional athletes.

You always say men are boring. These guys at least think outside the box a bit.

This is true. My standards for men and their fashion risk is so low that whenever they try I'm like

I'm not sure how unpopular this is. I could never pick between the two if somebody made me make the choice. I have a re:stacks half-sleeve FFS, haha.

 

Man the biggest fashion risk I take its wearing colored pants and then I feel nervous about it all day

Totally agree. I don't think this is unpopular though. While both of their albums are extremely critically acclaimed, I think the self titled may be more so.
