Those are all just synonyms of musical ensemble

  5. i guess a bunch of ppl are mad at tswift for covering EW&F. imo, more artists should cover more songs, by a *lot*. engaging with other music (contemporary or past) can only make an artist better. idk if this is unpopular. but i'd love to start hearing covers at every show

    what a waste of wood

I agree. When I go to see my favorite artists I always love hearing them play covers. There's some great bands/musicians I wouldn't have discovered/gotten into if it wasn't for bands covering them.

Due to being young and ignorant I had never listened to Joni Mitchell until James Blake covered her

Very grateful he did because she is wonderful

Studio recordings of covers are cool but when an artist has a large discography I’d rather only hear their original work in a concert

When I saw Katy Perry on the california dreams tour she had a lil Katy Karaoke segment of her show where she did a few covers and I liked it. I coveted that tony hawk album where the bands covered classic punk songs when I was a youth.

The only thing I haaaate is when some guy takes a fun upbeat pop song and sucks all the life out of it to strip it down. Rarely works for me. Other than that I think other interpretations of a song are cool

  14. acoustic covers by one guy of full band songs or pop songs or god forbid hip hop songs are the major exception here. stop doing that

  21. Cover albums are awesome and I wish more artists had them tbh. I partially get the “waste of time” argument but imo there’s something really special about hearing an artist or group perform songs that they feel most passionate about or have at any point inspired them to create for themselves.

I prefer covers to be one-off releases. I occasionally like seeing covers live but if it’s a band I love I’d rather see a set of all their own music. Cover albums can be fun but it generally bugs me when artists place a cover on an album. The Earth EP of The Alchemy Index is brought down a bit for me because it includes a cover.

  24. Hahah. Truth. Cool idea in theory, bad in practice. The problem with those, at least in the last decade or so, is just the straight up lack of diversity. Everyone, barring a few exceptions, just wants to try and cover whatever is currently popular instead of spotlighting songs that are older than like 5 years lol. Also the bands they get are all essentially like-minded carbon copies of one another to begin with, so their covers all wind up sounding the same. Just a big missed opportunity on everyone’s part every time one of those comps comes out.

Bands covering songs = Good (even if they're bad)
