I have a soft spot for The World Needs a Hero and The System Has Failed. And there are great songs and then filler on Cryptic Writings.

megadeth would get more credit if dave knew what the fuck to do with his voice. its not a hinderance for me at all but i know a lot of people cant get into them because hes such a shitty vocalist

Honestly maybe my single favorite Megadeth song. Trying to remember what the other classic on that record is. "Almost Honest"?

Dave's vocals were the only barrier to my enjoyment of Megadeth for the longest time. But the riffs, man. His voice is still obnoxious but I can deal with it if only for the music.

RE: thrash, there’s no other genre where, for me, the disparity in vocal quality and musical quality is so wide. So many of the best bands have less than stellar vocals. Megadeth, Exodus come to mind

This is a big part of why I definitely swear by what I heard somebody say once about thrash metal. What he said was "thrash metal and [hardcore] punk are basically the exact same thing".

Like, that sounds like bullshit, but the similarities are actually pretty staggering. There are OBVIOUS differences, of course, but between the guitar tone a lot of the time, the running theme of vocalists being technically not great with that nasal-shout tone they often go for, the political subject matter, and so on. It's interesting to think about, lol.

It's not that far fetched, Slayer put out an album of hardcore and punk covers and Metallica had a number of punk covers on Garage Inc. I'd imagine a lotof these bands would've been listening to a lot of it around the time they were forming.

Wonderwall is a great, monumental song but there should be a version without strings and piano because those aspects haven't aged well AT ALL.

Disclaimer: I have listened to this song about 15 times so far today so I might be going crazy. It has been stuck in my head since watching Everything Sucks yesterday and I'm trying to get rid off it through exposure therapy.

is it unpopular to think avenged sevenfold are really talented minus the singer and could've been a seriously decent band without him? even with him, take out the s/t and the one after it and it's not that bad of a catalog

My take on A7X is that I used to like them but now pretty much the only song of theirs I care about is A Little Piece Of Heaven. It's one of my go-to singing warmup songs.

nightmare is way better than hail to the king but self titled nightmare and hail to the king all suck, every other record is really good, city of evil and waking the fallen are straight up classics

I would love Waking the Fallen with a different singer. Unholy Confessions always reminded me of early Thrice for some reason.

i went back and heard a couple HTTK songs and they weren't bad, just bland i guess, and the couple i heard off Nightmare were atrocious. but yeah some of their stuff rips hard. i think i cried to M.I.A. when i was in high school lol

i cant believe the stage is as good as it is. shadows voice is still bad but the songwriting is back to a level it hasnt been in a long time.

probably because brooks is the only drummer on earth who could really do what the rev did in a7x.

City of Evil, half the S/T, Nightmare and the new album are very good. Everything else sucks heavily.

    No Fun. Not Ever.

I think Waking the Fallen and City of Evil are the only ones I ever revisit.
