To be absolutely and totally fair, that I believe, is the only Kendrick song I have ever heard.

I love Kendrick's music dearly but I don't care much for "Humble." Glad that it's been such a huge hit for him though.

    "Get down, real low down
You listen to Coltrane, derail your own train
Well, who hasn't been there before?

I come 'round, around the hard way
    Bring you comics in bed
Scrape the mold off the bread
And serve you french toast again
    Okay, I still get stoned
I'm not the kind of girl you'd take home"

I've always fucking loved that stretch of lyric.

To follow up from this, I listened to Tuesday Night, Sheryl Crow and C'mon today and throughly enjoyed them all. The S/T one is ridiculously good. I can def see me going back to these too. I'll have to check out her other stuff this weekend when I get a chance :-)

I really need to give C'mon, C'mon an official listen. I know I've heard most of it over the years and have always liked "Steve McQueen", "Soak Up the Sun" and especially "Safe and Sound".

That part definitely stuck out to me on my listen today. I can't remember the last time I played that record. I spun Tuesday Night Music Club a bunch last year because Maren Morris kept namedropping it is an influence, but I'm not sure I've heard Sheryl Crow all the way through since childhood. Glad she came up in this thread so I could dive back in.

Oh man I didn't know that about Maren, but that makes SO much sense. Can't believe I didn't catch it myself.

Sneaky favorite on the s/t: "Hard to Make a Stand"

I feel like Linkin Park doesn't get talked about enough in terms of getting kids into hip hop

  12. If anything, Linkin Park got me into heavier music

Linkin Park didn't get me into heavier music because at the time I just compared vocalists to Chester and they often came up short. They definitely got me into hip-hop though. I found the band I credit the most to (Gaslight) through a Youtube rabbit hole that started with Linkin Park and trying to find more stuff like it.

Well yeah, they pretty obviously got people into heavier music, guys! This is unpopular!

  16. Hahah. Truth. Fwiw the second time I bought Hybrid Theory (some dummy stole my first copy), I also purchased the Nappy Roots debut.

I've retained that factoid for 15 years just so I could bring it up right now, for you

I had the same reaction, haha. This was the article: Maren Morris on 'Voice' Rejection, Hungover Inspiration

The run from "If It Makes You Happy" through "Everyday Is a Winding Road" is so good.

I wouldn't be a bit shocked if someone told me Collision Course was the first record a lot of white teenagers had ever owned by a black artist.

Collision Course was a staple at grade school parties. Remember being able to bring headphones in on the last few days of school and like everyone had Hybrid Theory on blast

    You mean Holly Brook?

And yeah that was in a really collaborative period for him. He was also on "Steps Ascending" off War All the Time and one some Deftones covers and shit.

I enjoyed it, on first listen I did think it was not as good as the other two that came before it but it's was still good. Has much more of summer vibe going on.

"Queen of the Supermarket" is a good song.

    There's an unpopular opinion.
