literally people use "the scene" to talk about whatever is stereotypical AP music at the time lol

 

I'd still use the scene to talk about Philly cause they're fucking killing it. But I can't think of any other place that's churning out work in that genre with as much quality and efficiency.

I've never really understood what the scene meant, lol.

 

All genres are arbitrary

The main reason is that we're all from Absolutepunk and as a result "the scene" is used to mean like "this scene" referring to what Absolutepunk was built around

 

But outside of that yeah idk

 

Yeah, "the scene" is used to encompass pretty much everything it seems so I never know what it really means

 

I try to never use it except in a direct way

Like talking about a certain band and "their scene" opposed to an all encompassing "the scene"

 

But I probably slip up because we're all hypocrites

 

Honestly it's just second nature. I kind of grew up around the term " scene " so I tend to use it still. If that makes any sense.

 

I think of The Scene as the former backing band for Selena Gomez

I worked at Kmart (lol) for a couple years right after high school. That fucking music video played on a loop in the young girls section THE ENTIRE TIME I WORKED THERE

 

This is obviously what I meant.

 

This is exclusively how I use the term.

 

to me though that still gets weird because like, does every new indie/emo band that gets big on here get added to that term? even if they're in totally different spheres from a bunch of these bands?

i don't know, it's such a weird term and i agree that it's pretty much pointless, especially when people are like "this is the best album in the scene in a while"

 

yeah i use it like "warped tour scene", "DIY scene", etc ec

 

I tend to refer broadly to a lot of them as "new wave of emo" bands, because there has never been good terminology for any of this shit.

 

especially because that term has mutated in a way that basically every new upcoming indie rock band gets slapped with the emo or emo adjacent label too, heh
