Green Day is one of my favorite bands, but only about half that album interests me. I'm not really into extraordinary girl, give me Novocain, boulevard, or whatsername. Like I said tho the high points (letterbomb - maybe their best? - and are we the waiting/st Jimmy) are some of their very best songs

    so much for them! Prestigious

im sure ai is still a solid album but listening to it would remind me of 6th grade me and thats the last thing i ever want to do

  7. Zac my man, I really try not to pull out the "when I was your age" card with you because you're one cool dude and have been one for several years, but I'll just say that perhaps folks closer to mine and Craig's age have a different take on AI because of where we were in life when it came out (I was 12-13 so I guess Craig was 14), and how it was seriously a cultural force of nature. Hard to put that into words really, but I think that's the root of why some folks both younger and older than us might tend to disagree about AI.

But it's not just the nostalgia effect. I revisited the album in the last month for the first time in a long time and it still sounds fucking incredibly by 2017 standards to me.

  8. Lol just saw this and it's the exact opposite of my post. Shrug.

It's Grean Day doing a mean Who (circa A Quick One) impression and it holds up well.

    No Fun. Not Ever.

I dunno. I was 17 at the time AI was released. But I was absolutely in love with Warning. Maybe I was just more disappointed that it didn't follow that path.

  13. AI came out at a time that I should have loved it, but I never did. I got into Green Day and Blink at the same time around 98/99 and really wanted to like AI when it came out. I didn't. I still don't. Still wish they'd write another Warning.

As much as I can feel that AI is bloated and has too many ballads, that album is so fucking influential to my taste and love of music that I could not care less. In an ideal world, I'd cut a couple of tracks (*ahem* extraordinary girl *ahem*) but I love the album through and through.

I get that; it definitely sparked my interest in Green Day so I do love it for that, and I think it's a good album, just not a great one

Also, let's be real, the only bad Green Day opinion is "Dos is good"

I also don't really care for the story at all tbh. It's been a while since I listened in full tho, so maybe my opinion would've changed

I can't stand for this "Whatsername" bashing. I think that's their best song, period.

Yeah, I got that album for my 14th birthday, in the year that I really got into music. It definitely captures a time, place, and feeling (that entire election cycle and what it felt like to grow up in the years between 9/11 and the album release) better than just about any other record from that era.
